- it's called CS but it's not a CS-80
- it's called DX but it's not a DX7-II
- they have mini-keys (and they're all accomplished concert pianists, we know)
- their whole life is meaningless and devoid of any happiness
- etc.

Meanwhile, people who actually bought these seem to be pretty happy with them.

I'm curious as to what the recommended alternatives are. I know a lot of synth nerds feel that these are overpriced but the DX is still really tempting (just tried one out today). Is there a comparable mini synth (space is unfortunately an issue) that will offer a similar range of sounds at a better price? If not I might just bite the bullet and get one.

I don't think there's anything really comparable to the DX if you want a small good sounding FM synth with a nice interface. As I said, people who actually bought these seem pretty happy with them from what I've read. There are more alternatives to the CS for example, but dedicated FM synths are pretty rare.

Aaaaand, third post in a row. Sorry for the spam.

I checked in the Reface YC manual and the foot controller input is to control volume. So not good for drones. But then again, that's what picks and small bits of cardboard are for ;).

Laaaaaaaame I thought you'd be able to change chords and shit and sustain/freeze them with the foot switch. Ahh well.

Yeah, that would have been nice indeed. That kind of stuff can very probably be done by MIDI though, but it's not as simple.

Still, I don't regret my purchase :). Haven't had much time to play with it yet but so far it's super enjoyable.

Funny stuff! I've been seriously jonsesing to compose with my MS20. There is a site 20path or something like that with alot of good sounding patches for the MS20, been playing with them and making adjustments as I get more familiar with it.

...except one of my pups is a music critic and starts to claw me every time I play...

Dogs can be such a-holes. Mine usually fall asleep, or leave the room, whenever I'm working on my next epic masterpiece. No appreciation for good art. Well, at least they're not cats. :hobbes:

When I play or drone, my kitty either sleeps on the amp or the nearby couch or sits on the amp and rubs her cheek on the headstock when it gets close enough.

Team cats 1
Team dogs -1

I played one yesterday when I was buying my MS20 Mini and it was pretty rad. I was a little annoyed at MIDI over CV because I would want to integrate it into my tabletop rig but it was a very cool, easily useable synth at a good price.

I think I'm gonna grab one to use in conjunction with my sub Phatty

Lack of cv is a bummer but not a deal breaker

If I had more room I would have kept the Sub Phatty but since the Minilogue has more options, it will work with my novice ways as an all-in-one synth.

I feel you

Shit, at the rate I'm going soon I'll be playing more synth than guitar

My current mantra is *avoid the modular wormhole at all costs*
