 Thanks guys, after sleeping on it I feel a lot better, relatively speaking. Just gotta make sure to call the old man daily so he can tell me more stories of riding around on his motorbike in the 70's, listening to Sabbath during his Model days.

Fuck cancer. My Dad has finally managed what he can eat with this cancer bullshit going on. It's good to see him actually moving around again, since he was like 100lbs and on an oxygen tank a few months ago.

Had to leave kitty cat at the vet today. I thought she had thinned down because she was depressed that I wasn't around in august (she usually does that), but she's didn't recover in September and for the past week she's been on the decline. Vet says it's probably some chronic disease/condition that has kicked in because it usually happens at that age (12,5). Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

What's lame is that I had several good news today on the work/studies front, but I hadn't planned coming home to a severely dehydrated and somewhat anemic cat. How did I miss it before today, that she was going downhill again? Fuck.

Yeah man FUCK THAT CANCER SHIT. My dad's not really in the picture these days, but my father-in-law stepped up to be a dad to me when my (now) wife and I were dating. He's now three years beyond his max prognosis for brain/kidney cancer. Every day he wakes up is a big deal. He just turned 54, which is super scary.

Also, literally just fired someone. Gah. I feel nowhere near as bad as she does, but damn if it doesn't feel like shit to make someone cry in your office for half an hour. In a weird way I'm glad it's me who does it, though...most of the people I work with are dicks who do not demonstrate a whole lot of sensitivity.

  all around to those folks having a bad day. Gonna go home early and rip some FUUUUUZZ

My deepest sympathies to those of you who have family members with cancer. My mom is a cancer survivor, my father was not. I know what you are going through.

My biggest problem these days is underemployment - I haven't had a full-time job since the economy tanked. I went back to school and earned my MS, but the jobs still weren't there, so I drifted into teaching college part-time. It's the funnest job I've ever had, but without a PhD, it's almost impossible to get hired full-time, and I really, really, really need a full-time job again.

Dude it's impossible to get a full-time gig if you have a Ph.D. Hope it works out, message if you want to work on that ish. And welcome!

Glad you're liking teaching, too.

Not having a friend within 200 miles of me for multiple years is really starting to take its toll on my mental state. Every time down is worse as well. Spent all day at work today just debating selling everything I own.

Really not sure what to do. Anytime I try to go out and meet people it goes horribly wrong. I'm just here to complain I guess.

Can confirm, I've been rejected more times for my PhD than not. Left it out of resume and started getting more calls. It's absolutely fucking ridiculous.
