Appreciate the heads up in the potter books, looks like we gonna be back in nightmare city soon cause there is no turning back. We finished the 4th and yesterday watched the 4th movie and my house is potter crazy...Halloween costumes and everything. We are always a few years behind...even w frozen and high school musical...all that stuff hit our house later than the avg kids house.
Oh well, tonight we start book 5. I had a feeling it would be dark based on how book 4 ends. Gulp....I guess I should start saving for therapy now?

The library sent me the new book by Allie Brosh (who did
Hyperbole and a Half).
(went back and forth on whether to post this here or in the purple thread.)

It's pretty good. Same kinda mix of some laugh-out-loud parts and some heavy stuff. Lots of gold with doggos and other animals. And a truly amazing story about overcoming weakness with a plan "to consume a large quantity of drugs, watch scary movies, and then strand myself outdoors all night". Kinda scratches the itch for self-examination/storytelling that Spalding Gray used to reach.

Sounds the same as the old! Which is a good thing. On the list.

Yes.
You guys are fucked.
I'm in the same boat - I was pretty restrictive with violence and general scariness at our place, and now the little thrashers self regulate. Nah dad, we can't watch this, it's too scary. They'll all be teenagers before they're ready to brave the first Ghostbusters film

Awww they're so adorable
Later in life they'll either be in fight clubs or super straight laced

The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914
The emphasis of the first part on the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Balkans is making me want to re-read A Coffin For Dimitrios and search out more of that sort of interwar spy genre.

SCUD The Disposable Assassin. I bought this months ago because Rob Schrab. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with it: it's so teen-brained and honestly hard on the eyes.
Snow Crash. A long-planned re-read partially inspired by an episode of the Utopian Horizons podcast (

Drifts by Kate Zambreno. This has been my pandemic calm down read. Any time I need to really relax, this book does the trick. It's the daily journal of a erudite, cynical, poetic NYC "elitist" and it's exactly my wave, kind of like a contemporary Zooey.

I remember seeing ads in video game magazines in the 90s about a Scud game for like, ps1 or sega saturn.

Currently reading the Persephone Books reissue of
The Blank Wall by Elisabeth Sanxay Holding.
Just finished
The Glass Key by Dashiell Hammett.
I have this Dell version, which I bought decades ago in San Francisco for $2.
Both are pretty great.

Just finished The Exorcist by Blatty - I really enjoyed. Will get around to Legion in the near future.
