:grumpy: ...last show I went to was at the house of Blues to see roky erickson and the opening bands were extremely loud, you could not make out anything but the molecules exploding in the air...got some clips somewhere....point is....it was amazing....of course the big timers got on stage and everything was just as loud though crystal clear...stay loud....never understood earplugs and music....just take it or go.

At a certain point, things can get too "extreme" I guess. But I also feel like live music is supposed to be felt. To me personally, there's nothing better than being blown away by the huge subs at festivals for instance, and there's also nothing worse than being at a show, and once you're like 4 meters from the stage, all you can hear are people talking. The mushyness can be due to a couple of things: If the engineer at the gig hasn't got a great mix, it's gonna sound just as bad hella loud, as it is at lower volumes, or worse. Some venues have really bad speaker placement, so that if you're standing all the way up front, you might not be getting the best experience, cause the speakers could be on the same line as you, or even slightly behind you, or you could be hearing the on-stage monitors, amps, etc. At which point you won't be able to make out the vocals or keys and stuff like that.

On an unrelated note: I got up at 4pm on Thursday, it's now 10:35am Saturday here. I slept all of 2.5 hours yesterday, and have gotten perhaps 3.5 this morning, cause I'm going to pick up a bass cab that's a 1.5 hour drive away. I'm meeting my girlfriend later today, and I've got 3 assignments due Monday. Yay me.

When I saw Autolux, they were loud enough that my ears instantly compressed from the first note.
It wasn't until I put my ear plugs in that I could actually enjoy the concert. :idk:
I mean, the concert probably would've sucked if it had been at what I consider a "reasonable" volume (my ears are extremely sensitive to volume), so take that under consideration.

In other news, it's 5:00 am, I haven't gone to bed, and odds are it'll take me an hour to go to sleep.

Responded to a snarky text with equal amounts of snark last night/this morning before I went to sleep.
Kinda regret it because the receiver is super neurotic, also don't regret it for the same reason.

I forgot the put screws in for one of the circuit boards (which is held down by 10 other things, but still), because this was part of a larger order and I had five other things I was working on at the same time, and he decided this was part of a "serious pattern" and that he expected "A+ quality work 100% of the time." :whateva: This is referencing the couple of instances in the past two years where I didn't put one or two knobs back on a repair (even though I'd then send them via USPS immediately afterwards, once I found out what happened) or where some other issue arose with the repaired unit after it arrived at their location.

It's my screw up, and I wouldn't have gotten worked up if he had called to tell me about it, but reading a snarky email right before I went to sleep pissed me off more than it probably should have.

Also, to put into context why this particularly pissed me off, I've had 5 people call into question my/my father's repair work this week only to find that the problem came from them/their employees/their customers.

Well, don't feel bad for equal snark, he probably had it coming. Being neurotic is no excuse for being a dick. What kinda electronics do you repair?

Well, I've gained a pretty short fuse since I started doing this work, but snark is definitely something I've never responded well to.

In-house wired intercom/radios.
From your super basic 1950's-era ones to fairly "modern" (pre-wireless innovation, of course) ones that use microcontrollers, CD decks, tape decks, etc.
It's a niche market (and a failing one, at that), but it's still going because there really aren't any cost effective replacements for them as of yet.

The Flaming Lips are playing here tomorrow, and after months of all my friends being like "yeeaah, sweet, let's all go", every single one has bailed, and I fucking hate going to big shows alone. To top it off, the whole I-85 collapse shit is probably gonna make it even more of a pain in the dick to get there and back. I last saw them do The Soft Bulletin in its entirety, and while that was great, I was really looking forward to a more classic, high energy Lips show tomorrow, but now shit's getting me down and I'll probably just sit at home and wallow in regret.

Feeling like I might have been burned. Trying not to rage out until I'm positive.

deleted edit: didn't mean to reveal that much but I just really needed to vent about it or I wouldnt be able to sleep.

This community has a bunch of awesome people in it. A few came together to help my dog and I out of a shit situation which I'm eternally grateful to those who bought stuff, donated and shared kind words.

And unfortunately that feels a bit tainted.

Thank you! He is doing well now. Lost the ability to walk and see straight for most of that day. Seizure meds seem to be working.
