I will say, seeing the "classic" Slayer lineup blew my fucking mind. They were phenomenal.

So rad! Those hammered out solos are pure awesome.

Seriously though, the collab album was pretty good.

Which collab album? Did The Body and Thou do an album? I wish more bands would do collaboration albums and I know the The Body has done them with Haxan Cloak, Braveyoung, Assembly of Light and at least one more I'm forgetting but even those "In the Tank" albums that came out awhile back were usually pretty good. It's something I've always wanted to do as a musician.

Then based on cover alone I picked up Nile's Annihlation of the Wicked.   Never had any friends who liked metal, so I had to brave those waters alone, without even the help of the internet. From there it was Six Feet Under, Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth... Black metal, doom, drone... the heavier the better for me. :!!!:

I know that feel, I didn't have any help from the internet either or friends what liked the shit. The only way I found out about much heavier stuff was that off chance in Columbia House and then there was a magazine called Twizted something like that I think it did one issue, but in that issue it covered the entire early black metal scene and slayer n shit. I was interested in bands that were actively killing each other so I remembered the names... Emperor, Mayhem, Old Man's Child that they covered and came across another magazine months later called Metal Maniacs at the local grocery store. I opened it up to see if I could find anything about them and came across where I could order them from Century Media and all these other kick ass bands I'd never heard of in that mag so I bought that mag, read it and later bought via the credit card I had my first order from relapse and within the week an order from Century Media. something like 376 between the two and it was so worth it. those were my introductions to grindcore and black metal and so much more a quick rundown what I remembered ordering... clutch, Nasum, Benumb, Seige, Incantation, Slughog, Angelcorpse, Mindrot, Nile, Old Man's Child, Emperor, Mayhem, shit I can't remember what else but those are the ones that I remember immediately always.
