Been finding some grievances with my 72' Custom Tele recently and I might offer it as a trade for a Guild M75 Aristocrat that someone has up for sale in Dublin. The guy's looking for a Tele so he might consider it. I've played the Guild before and really liked it, but I don't know if can do without that Broadcaster single coil and snappy, punchy sound of the Tele. Ideally I'd do the trade now and then pick up another similar Tele in the future, but maybe in a Jazzmaster body shape for better comfort. Still, no one is offering such a guitar at a reasonable cost and I don't want to go the partscaster route.

Thoughts?

Any reason you dont want to partscaster it? Assembling a fender style guitar tends to be on the easy side. I know resale is doo doo, but if you are after something very specific and tailored to you I think it's the best route.

i like those Guild Aristocrats...they look great and i played one of the newer ones and they feel pretty nice man. I'm not much of a fender fan, so can't really comment fairly.

I'm having some guitar choice dilemma's...i'm going between these ones:
- Ibanez early 80's Artist in Tobacco burst
- Yamaha SG700 cherry burst or Black
- Tokai LS70 with BKP Mules (which is now the LS85) cherry burst
- Gibson LP studio Fireburst with gold hardware

I'm thinking the Tokai...but not 100% sure...any experience with these?

- The 80's Artist guitars are great for the money. I have an '81 AR100 and really love it. It's such a fat, sustaining guitar. Unplugged it sounds like a brick, but plugged in it turns everything I run it into turn into a wall of sound. I have in Drop C with 12's and it's going nowhere. I doubt you'd find a better guitar for heavy music with only £600 to spend. The pickups do not need replacing at all. You'd be insane to. The neck size is medium-large. I prefer smaller necks, but it was nonetheless more comfortable than the Edwards Les Paul Custom I recently sold that had a '59 profile.

- The Yamaha SG guitars are basically the same thing in a different shape, IMO. I'm always looking out for any of these three:

SG1000


or SG1500


- I've not played many Tokai guitars, but I've only ever heard great things. Bare Knuckle Mules are amazing pickups as well.

- I'd probably take the Tokai over the Gibson. I dig the finish, but I can't help but feel Gibson are toys now. Maybe I'd find the right one and buy it, but I imagine that's going to take some time to find.

It's the resale value that worries me. I haven't tried enough guitars out in my life to know exactly what I want so I'd be taking a risk.

I want an old school hot Tele bridge pickup and a humbucker in the neck. Love the looks and sound of a Tele, but I'm too used to more comfortable guitars now. The Reverend Buckshot kinda fits the bill, but not perfectly. We need more companies like Reverend. I'm sick of having an endless list of awesome expensive guitars that fit the bill but no affordable options.

I thought you had an Ibanez Ar100...you've spoken about it before, which is why i have been considering it...the only thing holding me back is that fact that i already have 1 Ibanez...which is a stupid reason, but gives you an insight as to how my mind works!

As far as the Yamaha...the one thing holding me back on the 700 is the fact that it doesn't have neck binding...and i know, 1 day, when i have the money, i would get a tobacco burst SG1000 and getting something that isn't quiet what i want may be a waste of money...thats the same argument as the LP Studio...I know one day i may get a Custom or similar so the Studio is never going to cut it for me. So...looks like I'm leaning towards the Tokai too...

As far as the Tele...you could get custom Tele bodies made up pretty cheaply...or, what about the old Peavey Tele's? they were suppose to be really comfortable guitars.
