That's what some ads in mainstream guitar media have looked like for a long time. Definitely not an excuse, but not surprising. What is surprising is that companies are still running ads like that in this day and age. :whoa:
Old dudes thinking sex still sells. Some blooz dads may look at that ad and say "boy I'd like a pair of those har har I'll buy my tubes there!" where the rest of us, and the women, and the younger generations are like :picard:
So you're opposing stereotypes by stereotyping? And I'm going to point out that it was the Woodstock generation (i.e. the so-called "boomers") that really got the ball rolling for equality and social justice in this country. If it wasn't for them, we would probably still be living with 1950s social mores.

Since we're having this conversation, let's talk about how the cover art on almost every stoner/doom album that has come out in this millennium has had a naked girl (or girls) on it. Okay, so the first time it was meant to be a symbol of a free-spirited/rebellious/anarchistic stoner lifestyle. But then it just became another formulaic marketing tool that seems to be aimed at horny, fourteen-year-old virgins. Enough is enough.

Also, the Matt Pike part was funny, but if you want a real analogy, it should just be some anonymous male model holding them between his ass crack. And then, for anyone having trouble empathizing with women's POV, imagine seeing adds like that almost everywhere - billboards, TV, magazines, newspapers, the internet - everywhere you look you see male models holding something between their ass cracks or in front of their packages, just barely enough to cover it up. Everywhere you look.

Yeah, but what percentage of that Woodstock generation actually held those values? :idk: :snax:

… and that's to say nothing about how unimaginative most of the current doom band music is to listen to. :doom:  :whoa: :wizard:

Honestly, no. Maybe the huge companies but the small fry, the type of companies still selling to people who believe their NOS RCA tube is magical compared to that NOS Sylvania? They're running shit they would like to see because they think their customers are just like them.

Small businesses are, generally speaking, fucking lost when it comes to PR/social media and advertising.
Hanlon's razor prob applies.
Local/regional ads are the least cringe-inducing imo, they tend to show warts and trace authenticity even if by accident.
IMO the most insufferable & insulting ads are the (multi?)national think tank calculated, highly polished and staged fast food photography type shit. Insurance, telecom, pharma, cosmetics & hygiene etc. I can do without being guilted, shamed or brow-beaten into consuming products (or not) and if I felt otherwise I'd become involved with some MLM pyramid scheme.

Reminder family businesses tend to be run by immigrants or 2nd gen descendents, have charm and circulate money in the communities they serve, despite not being woke enough with their wording for MAD ONLINE(tm) high frequency bloggers to nod in approval for a fleeting moment before finding something else to wag-finger and demerit

Oh yeah for sure I just feel bad making jokes when you're talking about actual serious stuff. Ive been kinda bitchy to our conservative (or at least more conservative than me) fuzz bros in the past and this year I just wanna have fun goofy chitchat and not try to convince anybody that THE WAY YOU PERCEIVE THE UNIVERSE IS FLAWED.

When I brought Pike into it I wasn’t making an analogy I was more pointing out that if you wanna sell me gear show me someone who you know actually plays and sounds awesome, not a pair of tits

That's a great point. I prefer seeing someone in the trenches doing it right as well. I mean tits are great, but it's not going to sell me gear.
