Re: Been a while since we had a HARMONIC PERCOLATOR thread,
The add for the one I was talking about, a local deal for an Interfax HP reissue, showed a pic of the pedal's inards...
The moment I saw the handful of components, was the moment I decided to check with you guys...I'm a sucker for vintage easthetics and all that, but I already have a nice looking HP clone that DOES come with a nice Ge/nothing/Si toggle and true bypass switching, and I doubt this pricey reissue will blow me away with how much better it sounds...

You're there man. There is more cool stuff you can do obviously but put the Ge diodes on, boom. Vintage spec.

Saw in Instagram yesterday, Dunn effects is working on a Percolator with an HM-2 tone stack.

I just bought one of the proto’s, my two favorite dirt circuits smashed together.neonblack wrote:Saw in Instagram yesterday, Dunn effects is working on a Percolator with an HM-2 tone stack.

Perc>HM2 sounds pretty rad, so I ass/u/me Perc + HM2 toan stax would be said rad with better clarity.

Re: Been a while since we had a HARMONIC PERCOLATOR thread,
I’ve been boosting my Even Anguish with a Dunwich HM-2 and it rips so I’m really excited to get this. It’s absolutely going to be on my bands new EP. If it does the low gain side of Percolator tones then it’ll go on my guitar board for shoegazey shit, but I’m hoping it gets disgusting.ck3 wrote:Perc>HM2 sounds pretty rad, so I ass/u/me Perc + HM2 toan stax would be said rad with better clarity.

Re: Been a while since we had a HARMONIC PERCOLATOR thread,
Chuck Collin's HPs are okay, vintage spec is important to some and Albini claims it is good enough to the real thing, but I wouldn't know. All these mods and options make this circuit much more usable and, more importantly, louder.
Sliders look rad but they have their drawbacks like getting dirty and damaged. My bassist had an intermittent volume loss due to errant foot stomp causing damage to the right slider and a bunch of unknown substance in the slider track that I referred to as "beer resin." Also to note, I emailed Chuck about some questions and he responded fairy quick and was quite helpful.

Re: Been a while since we had a HARMONIC PERCOLATOR thread,
My Champion Leccy Divvy came in, awesome swag 'n' all....

I can echo CK3's comments about this being a Big Doomy BoostTM.
I haven't had a ton of time with it yet cuz I also had a HEQ1 arrive (HEQie Leccy weekend over here), but with a Gretsch Jet w/ Dynasonics and a lil Univox tubester it was all grinding throaty bashing as far as that can go in the house. I'll be very interested to see how that plays out at rehearsal this week. I did have time to throw a tube boost both in front and behind, with excellent results. The Divvy imposes it's tonal character either way, but with the boost in front of the Divvy, the clipping from the Perc set-up is more apparent (duh). Still, it's a different flavor than a straight up Perc--less clangy clashy and/or zippery and more rocks in a dryer rumble and boom, but still with some interesting funk in the harmonics area.
Another thing this has in common with boosts moreso than fuzz is that when boosted it passes a lot of the boost's volume through to the amp; a real consideration if you want to try boosting this into being a primary clipping source--unless the other pedals and amp have high headroom, you're probably going to be hearing some of their clipping mixed in with the Divvy. I find that this often is a good thing (depends on the amp and other pedals in-line obvi), but it's another way in which the Divvy acts like it's own thing rather than a straight Perc clone.
(btw/ I did crack the back, and the insides are very nice - - neat, if not OCD level, wiring throughout - - quite inspiring of confidence in the builder, and the Perc DNA is readily apparent.... Both trannies are Si, but they are an NPN/PNP pair.... To me, it looks like an asymmetrical Ge/Si clipping scheme.)
Anyway, this thing really has it's own personality, which I think is actually fairly well represented in the C. L. demo. I don't personally find it to be that much like the other Perc circ I have (a Montgomery Appliances Harmonic Dominator) and that's a good thing afaic.
For those who are looking for a real deal Perc experience, I'd recommend that you go elsewhere first, but for those who are attracted to the guttural dirty boost you can hear in the Champion Leccy demo, don't hesitate - - this pedal is good good shit! Can't wait to stack this some more and try it with some different instruments and amps.
Also, this is the second Champion Leccy pedal I've had a chance to play (got to try out the Gett, a modded extrapolation of the Black Russian BMP), and I'm noticing a distinct sonic signature.... Looking forward to stacking Leccys with Leccys....
(also, sorry this write-up got so damn long )
