ShaolinLambKiller wrote:That's just mislabeling. I don't have a single care about metal's popularity. There is ALWAYS an underground of excellent and more interesting bands that never get much notice unless you actually take a bit of time and dig. Worrying about what the top layer of scum and failure is doing is pointless outside of telling someone that doesn't know better that they suck and should listen to X band that was far better.

You're right. I wish there was a better word I could use. I just like actually be able to find people to chill with who like the same music I do/the bands I like can sell stuff vs. band X being trendy and cool to listen to amongst the cool kidz.

It's not a bad time to be a metal fan/doom fan in the NYC area. St. Vitus Bar has plenty of awesome shows and lately a lot of them have been selling our or near selling out. That's good for the bands obviously. Sure some losers show up who think it's trendy or ironic to be at a show but the majority of the crowd is chill and it's easy to bump into people you know. This is all fairly recent and I wonder what it would be like to be 10 years younger at these shows since the median age even seems to be trending younger at some shows. Which is cool. Good to know the good music will be passed on. Definitely wasn't like this in the late 90s as far as I knew back then. When I first started going to shows it was either really young crowds at a In Flames show or a really older crowd at an older band's show. It was weird sometimes.

That's a solid take on the song. I'm going to give some of her other stuff a listen. Aside from teh heavies and classic rock, I really like jazz and stuff like this.

It gets SO much worse. I was quite literally paralyzed by hatred. I've heard the whole goddamn thing and by the end of it I almost drove my truck into oncoming traffic.

The repress looks awesome dude.

D.o.S. wrote:There's a lot of good stuff on the first couple Slipknot records. The songs are pretty radio friendly, and I can see people getting turned off by the Kiss-isms, but there be tasty riffs and interesting textures by the truckload.

Particularly if you, like me, love bouncy one note shit. Which means you're not ShaolinLambShamer.

I had the first Slipknot album, after that I never paid much attention to them. They played a song from that album (Eyeless maybe?) at my prom in high school...

This. I graduated in 2003, and this was pretty much the case in my town (still is, I assume). One of my best buds was really into screamo, but that was really the only exception.

I'm going to assume that the person who made this list generally doesn't listen to metal :picard:

This is a band on that list. I'd willfully watch this entire band get murdered and tell no one what happened. That music is so bad I'm actually inclined to think they don't deserve to live. Really hoping this is just a troll band.

WHAT. THE. FUCK. IS. THIS.

Shitcore.

I get excited when the new Slipknot song comes on the radio. It is a breath of fresh air because radio around here plays nothing but classic rock all day long. That includes repeats of that 5FDP cover every hour on the hour. And Volbeat...

Can't go wrong with Nina. Most of my jazz listening is instrumental, but she's definitely on the short list of vocalists I turn to when I need that vibe. (See also: Sarah Vaughan, Cassandra Wilson.)
