I know, you're thinking "dude must have some shitty ink." Nope. I just have some awesome friends.
Make friends, get tats. If you can't make friends with a competent tattoo artist, you shouldn't be playing music.
agreed totally with that. my whole arm was pretty much a hook up, he's moved away since then But occassionally comes in town. Oh I'd tip him and pay whatever he wanted.. it was always heavily discounted and I appreciate it. Was friends with him before he started tattooing so I didn't feel like a mooch.
That's how I started my sleeve, dude did the artwork for our EP.
Then tipping turned into just paying him retail, it became harder to book any time with him, he disappeared and the store he was in got shut down....drug money, trouble with Bikies etc.
Eventually I lost contact and track of him and couldn't be bothered chasing him up. Plus I'd heard he got deported.
So I ended up recommencing work with an artist I didn't know and had to pay full retail for. But I was happy because he's a cool guy and reliable.
At this point in my life I'm much happier doing it like that.
But I wouldn't say no to mate's rates either.
Oh, ry:

So to catch up the jeans discussion...all but for a very brief (maybe a year or 2) period during the 90's i was in skinny jeans...actually come to think of it...i don't think my look has changed since the 80's when i skated with skinny jeans and black vans...almost 40 years old and i still wear skinny jeans and black vans...i stopped skating about 5 years ago but ride a fixie...yes, i look somewhat like a hipster.
Wallet chain back in 91...i didn't use a chain i use to braid black rope...these days im more sophisticated i get my wallets from a guy in california and he puts a leather strap as a chain and does all kinds of art work on the wallet.
Now tats...thats an interesting one for me...ever since the first metal mag i bought back in 80's and saw a picture of metallica and cliff burton with the misfits tattoo id wanted a tattoo...and for a very long time i wanted that misfits tat...but between seeing that and being able to get a tattoo was a good 8 years...so my taste changed and i could never decide on what to get. I went through the rest of my life coming with ideas for tats but when i would really think about it, i didn't feel so connected to it that i would want it on my body. Thats all until i had my first son...and as a result my first tat...now I'm having a second son, ill do another one...and i think that will be it.
The other good thing about getting mine so late is that my career is at a point where a visible tattoo wouldn't really impact any opportunities...working in finance, i would have had a harder time if i have gotten tattoo's in my 20's.

I've always said: if I ever get a facial tattoo, it's going to be a picture of a burning bridge.

I've got a bunch of tat's on left arm that was the beginning's of a full sleeve before I had a fall out with the artist (old bandmate) and then he stopped tatty zapping. I've got a two on my right arm and one on my right leg. I want to finish my left arm sleeve, get a half sleeve on my right arm and then connect them with some upper back pieces and chest pieces (these will be memorial pieces) and then finish the bottom half of my right leg and I'll probably be good.
Kinda regret when an old bandmate who is an amazing artist and guitar player (who just got signed to metalblade) offered to tattoo my stomach for free if I got something udderly ridiculous and stupid.... Gah....

I have knuckle / finger tattoo's but no neck or face. I don't mind wearing gloves when necessary but theres no good way to cover up your neck or face. Luckily I also work in the automotive field, there's less people without tattoo's than with.

that's the thing with me right now as well. i got into the analog synth black hole of burning money, and i don't know when i'm going to leave.
if somebody did them for cheap for me i would get some done.

One last bit on the tattoos thing -- my boss (like, name on paycheck boss) has most, if not all of a full sleeve. I think most everyone I work/socialize with has at least one.
I's like I'm the lone Keith Morris in a sea of Henry Rollinses.

Same. I had intentions of connecting them. I just took time and effort to plot it all out.
It was hard to connect with my artist because he was touring in a band for awhile. Then moved home. Then moved a few hours away. Not I usually wait for him to come out here as a guest artists some where and then I have him do some work.

So in 2004 I got into a car wreck and because I wasn't wearing my seatbelt,(hard lesson learned.) I smacked my face against the windshield and ripped my entire left eyelid off but did not lose any vision in my eye itself. I mean, eyelid completely gone. Well after 7 surgeries with donor skin from below my eye, behind both ears, and the interior eyelid portion from the roof of my mouth; it generally takes someone a while to notice and that's if they notice at all. I say all this because I had my last surgery yesterday to go in and take the last of the glass out. I thought this one would be super easy, with little to no recovery time. Well from the time I woke up from the anesthesia, this one hurt the absolute worst. I thought share my post-op pictures. I was looking for a pre surgery picture to show just how exaggerated this post op pic is, but I'm not one for selfies so I couldn't find one and unless it's a close up you can't really tell. There's a big scar the goes up my forehead and into my hairline. The Dr offered to fix it to make it far less noticeable, but I opted to not do it. It's the roadmap to the whole thing. Without it, the eyelid scar wouldn't tell the whole story.
Well I guess there's the chance for metal show epicness if my face starts gushing during our set on Wednesday. Should be fun.
Enjoy.
