That sucks, I remember those days... mainly trying to find shit to copy and bullshit my way through to change up enough and hope no one noticed... no one noticed.
I wish Galaxicon wasn't dead.
Oh I got my Laney in on sat, and got to open the box today.
FUCKING JOY IT'S FUCKED UP

I fucking give up.
To describe the pics below.
The chasis is practically destroyed, you can lift the entire top portion off the bottom. It's missing the feet and a corner. The on button has been totally knocked off. I can t even turn it on. So I have no idea if any internal damage has been done. I paid for worn used/ works great like your description. This is basically a paperweight. THEY DIDN'T EVEN REMOVE THE TUBES. JUST SHIPPED THEM IN THE AMP AS IS.
"Sounds and works great. Two knob caps have been replaced (pictured). Exterior shows signs of usage."
Aka doesn't work... signs of using it as an anvil.

Holy shit SLK you need to go full rage beast.
Take skulls.
If you can't resurrect it, and you don't have to return it, I might be interested in buying the transformers off you, though....
So there's that.

You have GOT be kidding with that fucking Laney. I hope you can kill the guy or something!

That was highly enjoyable and I just highly enjoyed it!
conky wrote:Walked in the door this morning and there was an Ape Blaster sitting on my counter. Just hooked it up and got to mess around with it for a few minutes. I can already tell it will be a keeper. I had a Super Hard on before and I liked it but it wasn't heavy enough. The AB reminds me of all the things I liked in the SHO with everything in it that I felt the SHO was lacking. Fuzz from hell but string clarity is paramount. Nice, thick and brighter (not harsh at all though) on one setting and flip the switch for even more fuzzed out low end. Can't wait to get this thing in the space to see how it goes in the full band setting. Haven't tried stacking it yet but I'm sure it will play nice.
Holy shit, that was fast! I went to the PO after hours on Thursday so I figured you'd get it today. I'm glad you're feeling it! And yeah, that thing is pretty well impervious to any guitar's volume knob. That's what I meant when I said if you want it to shut up you have to step on it. It's also funny that you mention the SHO right away because the final stage of the Ape is pretty damn similar to a fixed gain SHO. So did you play it with the Black Winter? I'm thinking of picking up an axe that has EMG's in it so I'm contemplating what they'll be replaced with. Black Winter seems like a good one for the neckhole.
AxAxSxSx, please let me take this opportunity to tell you how much it warms my heart to see Sean The Booth on stage with you guys. I really really really need to experience this firsthand.
Iommic Pope wrote:Conky, the AB, I find, really likes a clean amp with some brightness and the presence dialed up..
I'm loving it with SLO (the 'clean' channel of that is just a plexi for all intents and purposes) but it was tweaked around my Bassman 135 which is a fantastic clean machine. I can't even fucking wait to get it going with this Prince amp I've got coming.
Iommic Pope wrote:Yeah, Darren made a fucking unicorn when he put that thing together. Just so fucking good.
Oh you! I'm blushing. Seriously though, it's monkey simple inside the thing. If I can make a swell fuzz that floats my boat and other people like too, then anybody can. I believe that 100%.

That'd rule. The guy running sound last weekend had just moved up from florida, this was the first show he'd worked on. Had no idea who the local bands were. I think he found the cheese metal scene but not the good stuff. Studio 7 is not a good place to go if you want real music. Mentioned Torche and he got all excited so I tried to get a list of bands to check out together for him. When you come out make sure you hit us locals up so the same doesn't happen to you!
Hell I lived here for years and didn't get clued in. Granted, I was in the Army at the time and crazy busy but I missed a lot.
let us know when and maybe we can schedule an Ancient Warlocks, Ex-Gods, Flux, Red Cloud show and make it a DR evening.
A capital idea!

Based on the pictures I'd have to assume that went very well.
So that amp Jake posted on the previous page. I have plenty of firsthand insight that would preclude me from ever going near one of those. I know they sound fine and everybody loves the things and I'm definitely not here to argue. But with money? I wouldn't. Ever. Well okay, everybody has the potential for growth so I should say that I'd never unless I see a fucking a shit-ton of new pictures that contradict what I've seen with my eyes.
Okay this is the part where I finally get to play guitar. It's been two days!!!

Hey Daz, you earned it man.
You made a very swell pedal, indeed.
And fuck! Coffee! Don't fuck around here, go and have one!
I just had a large one, so I'm a bit excitable...
I'm so livid on SLKs behalf with that Laney.
I'd be in a murderous fucking rage.

Yea I'm in the mood right past being livid. meaning just fucking over it all. I've already contacted and filed so let's see what goes with this.
3rd fucking amp in a row. this one I've been wanting to get. I'll probably not buy any more for awhile now.
it might as well been a trash bag,
plain cardboard box, with barely a bit of bubble wrap and some newspaper.

Jesus christ. That's fucking garbage.
The pictures hide SO FUCKING MUCH. You'd think if the fucking thing was on the verge of falling apart they'd perhaps mention that.
I mean.... you can rewire a power switch and you can build a new headship but if you knew you were going to be doing that you'd probably drop about $150 or some shit.

Just in case anybody was wondering, these amps are fantastic. Not mine, but I got to tinker extensively with it at our rehearsal spot (my basement), and now I want one SOOOOOOO BADLY. Without even hesitating, I would take this KT-88 beast of amp over any vintage Orange, Sunn, Hiwatt, Marshall...you name it. That's not something I could have imagined typing a few days ago.
Not that I don't believe you, but I don't believe you. Did we ever figure out what the big one was before it got modded/"recycled"?

I have a Dwarvenaut so I'm totally biased (it used to be a Jet City so feel free to make fun of it on the internet)... And not that I think anyone here is fooled by hype... BUT...
In music and gear I really try to listen only with my ears, especially with my pedalboard, even though sometimes I am still fooled by looks or brand. The fact is that sometimes the Boss version of something just sounds way better than some boutique thing or the vintage version. Sometimes it's the other way around.
My Hovercraft used to be some pile of Chinese junk but that pile of parts has been modded and remade into a doom tone monster. I think it's less about the mojo of the parts and more about the amp builder's ears and taste being in the same ballpark as mine.
The guy is into our kind of music and knows how to make an amp sludgy and glorious sounding. Maybe when he makes a custom amp with mercury magnetics transformers and a bunch of higher end components it sounds even better but I wouldn't know.
Anyway I understand why people might be sceptical after the scams out there with dudes buying Chinese OD pedals, gooping them and lying to people about them being custom built.

We should have Summit Fest and get like 8 bands. Why not do this to excess, this is the DR after all.
Here's my 2c on hovercraft. they sound decent. No argument there. For me it's a question of if you want an amp you are going to live with for years, or if you will flip it in a couple of months. They are what they are and I don't imagine that the changes made cause less stress on the components. I'll keep my 40 yo old behemoths, that cost less.
