This, far too much.

And, although you may not feel that the rebel flag is a symbol of hate to you, it still is inextricably connected to countless acts of hate and violence against those who are not a white Protestant. The flag may be a symbol of pride, but it's also a symbol of violence, and an antagonistic thing to (surprise, surprise) a lot of people.

I mean, being called a faggot may not mean too much to you, but consider those who have been beaten, berated, and killed while being called a faggot. The link can't be simply ignored. You can't just throw shit around and not expect someone to react, or just expect respect of your opinion.

Sorry dude.

i keep wanting to say more but i dont really know what to say. other than that its an inanimate object & it only holds the power you give it. any asshole that uses anything (symbol, gun, words) for means of violence, hate, or any unscrupulous activity is still the asshole. the "anything" he used is simply a tool. neither good or evil. anybody who cant see that is the ignorant person imo.

put blame on the folks who think & act on hatred & violence, not the tools they use. any thing else is giving them too much satisfaction.

My sovtek cab is actually loaded with the speakers from that old peavey cab I mentioned earlier. Y'all started talking about Sheffields and whatnot, reminded me.

Just curious:
What meaning does that flag hold for you?
What do you think it represents?
What emotions does it evoke in you?

At the risk of stating the obvious, Texas =/= the South. I wouldn't expect someone from Texas to really get the Southern Pride thing. You guys are your own special blend of crazy redneck. :p

for me it means mostly rebelliousness. i feel ive always been some what of a rebel, both on purpose & just naturally being myself. for instance, im like too country for this place & way too rock n roll for the telecaster forums. ya it used to be southern pride, etc. i was like a step away from being in the sons of confederate veterans even lol. but yeah from like 16-20 i was all into southern heritage & shit. now, apart from (slightly anyway) still being purely a form of rebellion, its just a piece of nylon & it makes a nice dust cover.

i think it represents what ever you want it to. literally whatever meaning you give it is what it represents. like gay, used to mean happy, then a slang term for homosexuality, now it really just means not cool in most senses.

as far as emotions, i cant think of any tbh. i really like trying to be stoic even.

V4 is killer, want one pretty bad myself! Keep the Carr for sure, drastically different amps in regards to power and sound, both of which excel at what they do.

Think how different this thread would be had you only posted the first pic though. NIght and day!

Yeah, I grew up and live in an area that's pretty southern.
I've known plenty of people that flew or wore or had stickers etc. of the Confederate Flag.
If you asked, most of them would say they weren't racist but an outsider looking in (myself included) would see it different.
It's easy not to think of the significance of things to others when you're surrounded by it all the time.

Your comment about the different meanings of gay sheds a little light....
The reason people use the word "gay" to mean "not cool" is they consider it not cool to be gay.

Just know that words, actions and symbols carry weight whether we mean them to or not.

Nice amp by the way I've love 15's and have wanted a V4 for a couple of years now.
I bet it sounds killer.

Mr. Rattler420.....you are being an idiot. wake the fuck up. or better yet take your rebel flag and go down to the 4th ward in Htown, and explain how it means nothing.
you're on one of the most progressive thinking boards in music and we're all telling you that it sends a wrong message...but you argue that you're not. so that tells me you're happy with the message and are a fukking backward arse redneck from tex.
by the way...i'm from the south too. that is no excuse for being so stupid about this.
send me your paypal addy...i'll send you 25 cents and maybe you can buy a clue.

well, i dont really know how to respond any further. you do seem very progressive though, cant have a debate about symbolism without getting heated and all (i never suggested what the flag meant, until i was asked of course). or even fathom for a second that even though something once stood for this, can now stand for that. or even mean 2 different things at once.

& my analogy with the word gay was certainly not the best. though i was trying to infer eventually it may have no connection to homosexuality at all.

any way, sorry we cant all be friends. i really dig this place too, but i certainly dont want to over-stay my welcome.

Wow, well this got out of hand in a heartbeat.... and i was just reading a thread in the general section about how everyone loved this board because we don't start drama..... Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no one is forced to believe another's... Otherwise your just as bad as the people your fighting against.... I take no side's in this, just pointing out a right we have as human beings.

Rattler you are more than welcome to post here, though you should understand what kinds of emotions symbols can evoke.
Some people have strong feelings about that flag and it will cause them to view you in a negative light.

You can't please everyone, a completely unoffensive forum would be a boring one...but understand this is a tight community and that sorta thing just isn't too popular around these parts.

i see a confederate flag and i smile and think about how daisy duke used to make my pants tight when i was a little kid.

as i said... i am pretty oblivious. nice amp btw... :duck:

Rattle-man, I know this seems like a crazy blow-up here but I can relate... this happened to me once too. When I was in high school I had a confederate flag shirt that I thought was awesome because I was into Pantera and Crowbar and Corrosion of Conformity and I thought it was a symbol of southern badassery, which I wanted in on. I didn't know a thing about the civil war or anything, I had no idea what that flag meant and the person who explained it to me didn't think I was a southern badass.

The thing about some symbols is they do have different meanings through the years, good or bad, but some don't. The swastika is a good example since for thousands of years and to millions of people it was a symbol of spirituality, enlightenment, or mystical knowledge.

The confederate flag has always been a symbol of racism and oppression, that's what it means to people. It never had a spiritual history and it never will. But even if you were a student of Eastern religion and had a swastika for an avatar pic, that still ain't gonna fly, you know?

I think we can all still be pals though, you like 15s and Teles, I still think you're welcome. *smile*
