Fender is kicking the shit out of gibson all together IMO, I was a gibson guy for years and anti-fender. Now it's totally switched, gibson's quality and attention to customer desire's has plummeted (not to mention the whole ebony scandal) while fender and squire for the most part have started listening to what all their customer's want and have been making change's accordingly. What has epiphone done in the past ten year's that rivals the success of the j mascis squier or the newer offset squier basses? The prophecy line?

And Fender itself for that matter. Every Squier I've played lately has kicked the shit out of low to mid range Fenders, quality-wise.
It's like Fender is turning into just a brand name to buy (in black or sunburst only), and Squier is the one they put all the cool stuff out on.

I'm guessing we see Fender's low-end to switch to Chinese production after the introduction of the Modern Whatever Marauders etc and MIM stuff to go midrange or higher; as it stands the lines are hopelessly confused by options that don't make much sense.
Blacktops are outclassed by the Squiers in real terms in almost every way but the logo, and the step up to the MIM Classics are is pretty big and quality/difference finally shows up.
And since I'm not a nitro finish snob (prefer poly myself for longevity/body chemistry reasons among other things), the American stuff is just sort of a headscratcher.

like gibson and epiphone quality seem to suck and they never release anything new. it seems like fender has a new line every other month. and squier's have come a long fucking way in the last couple of years. i've always been a Fender guy, but they REALLY seem to be the superior company lately

I have no idea where people are getting the japan only line with these guitars. read the original post on offsetguitars, the guy got the pics from FMIC. not fender japan. nobody really knows any of the details about these guitars for sure. the japan only thing is just conjecture at this point. none of these guitars have been released in japan except the similar CV squier mustang. this mustang looks a bit different though with the duncan designed pickups and non-branded trem plate. everything accounted for in these pictures (the brick background, duncan designed pickups) and then adding in where the pictures allegedly came from, I would say these are not japanese guitars.

my guess: MIM is on its way to becoming a thing of the past. USA will be limited to Custom Shop offerings in the future; the high end of the regular Fender line will be MIJ/MIK like the Gretsches and high-end Epiphones, and the low-end Fenders will be MIC and/or gobbled up by the MIC/MISouth Asia Squiers. they can get better quality cheaper in China than they can in Mexico, and now that they've broken the ice with Fender-branded MIC guitars
apres them
le deluge.

The mustangs were released in banannafaceland as an fsr. Fender messaged OSG that they would be japan only.
I think these are probably real. I think the mascis jazzy was to gauge interest and putting j's name on it was a failsafe to make sure that it wasnt a total failure....which it wasnt. I dont think anyone even really gave a shit that it was related to j mascis. im really stoked on these and can def see myspel picking up the white jag and the mustang. Im thinking lipsticks on the jag. Yes.....lipsticks on the jag.

i don't think FMIC had any idea the J Mascis JM was going to sell like it did. that guitar was the talk of every musician forum i look at. everybody from young fuzz mongers to surf-rockin' retirees was pre-ordering them, waiting for them, grabbing the first ones on the shelves when they hit the shops, and posting about how great they were when they arrived. i haven't seen that kind of excitement about a new model of guitar in my fucking LIFE.
