Bump for this question.
I'm currently interested in small bodied guitars with short 24 inch scale.
I need to ditch my Jazzmaster for one.

My guitar instructor bought his jaguar last year for around 1,200. the price at schmitt music is now 1,900.

Dude, you hit the nail in the NUTS!! Carvin will custom make a "strat" or a "tele" for under a grand. Made in the states, great quality, amazing playability.
I mean hell, why buy a mass produced Fender when you can scrap together another couple hundred bucks and get a John Suhr?
SUCK it Bruce Boland Jr.!!

I can't believe this crap...and to think that my friends gave me a hard time when i bought an old jaguar for 1000 euros like six or seven years ago, they thought it was overpriced...(i was paying for the guitar the next two years, the owner agreed to that, didn't have all the money at once

) .I thought that vintage series guitars are already expensive, but this just doesn't make any sense no more...too bad.

I've said it before, but if I ever get a new guitar it's going to be eastwood. Fender will join Gibson in my "buy used" mind-set.

i think it's bollocks. You can't blame it on inflation when it's in a recession. There's a few companies pulling this at the moment though, hope it bites them in the ass.

Of course it will! People aren't as stupid as these companies think they are. There are plenty of Fender copies available anyways and I think people are starting to get more interested in lesser known guitars, Eastwood for example has a lot to offer for prices way under Fender and Gibson, plus they look really fucking cool (amirite Pumpkin Pieces?).

It won't hurt them...in fact they'll probably make money.
I'd bet 90% of the people that buy fender are young players with dad's credit card or old dudes with wads of cash...price doesn't matter as long as it's a "Fender"
A buncho gear nerds buying copies or used won't hurt their bottom line...the price increases will more than make up for it. Sad but true.

(Okay, I know I'm taking a moderate approach to this...)
Price increases, especially big ones, are always disappointing. And I'm always against hyper-inflated prices. But...
Fender stayed waayyyy under Gibson prices for a long time (their "standard" for 1000-ish and Gibson's "standard" for 1600-ish), and I give them props for that. And had the affordable Mexican line for all that time when Gibson did not.
Also, looks to me like they've introduced several pretty cool models to fill the gap at that previous price range.
I'm pretty cynical, but I doubt this increase has
too much to do with greed. Probably more looking out for the company's future and looking down the line.
Big profit? Maybe, but when a company gets this big, they need to maintain that profit level to stay afloat. The price of becoming a monster.
Anyway, I'd rather see an increase in price than see them fold a few years from now.
*ducks*

We can also blame Kurt Cobain. $940 for a mustang? sheesh. To think they used to be beginner guitars.

Very true. I often wish I could go back in time when nobody wanted Jaguars and Mustangs and they were really cheap.
