Made my wife watch it with me and liked it ok. Seemed like it was taking itself way too seriously. Would keep watching it if it were free, but definitely not subscribing to CBS streaming just for it.

I've accepted stories being dragged out as part of the current TV climate but I think one of the things that lets it (and discovery) down for me is overall style and set design, while I get it's supposed to be the future my favourite style is always a period cross over and I think it loses a lot of its charm by trying to look too big, bright, clean and futuristic and unlike say the original series or next generation where you had a budget conscience period appropriate attempt to look 'space age', it's going to end up ageing poorly a lot quicker with all its wavy hand computers and 'sleek' designs... it needs some grit and confinement to drag it closer to home.
Might be on my own with it/a weird argument but it just seems to take me out of it.

It's been 3 episodes, now, and so far everything that's happened could be the first half of a regular STNG episode, I'd say.
kind of feels like they were luxuriating in the whole-season drop model but nobody's doing that anymore.

True. I wouldn't be surprised if the experience ends up being a bit better once the season ends and it can be binged all at once.

body count going up, seems like getting help on a federation ship 20-30 yrs ago means you're gonna end up deid in PICARD

To be fair, you were pretty much guaranteed to die on a federation ship if you wore the wrong shirt, so.

Episode 7 was my favorite so far.
The Troi/Riker kid is my favorite character of the series.
I've been expecting to see evidence that there's Borg juice in the Maddox synths but after ep 8, it doesn't seem like it.
Unless the time travel stuff with Control in Disco is going to tie in and tell us that the borgs went back in time to do the genocide that the Zhat Vash are so worried about.

OHHHHHHHH, I never even thought about that.
I've been trying to figure what the fuck the actual plot of the show was, but that would actually make the entire show make more sense.

I've still been really enjoying the show. It's definitely been a slow-burn, and it's been difficult getting used to just how broken and worn-down Jean-Luc Picard is, but every episode has been better than the last, and I'm finding the story really engaging.

Every episode, I kind of hate the first five minutes but then I get sucked in and I love it.
Ep 9 had a very TNG feel to me with the space flowers and the over-the-top philosophy of the antagonists.

Also Brent Spiner being a weirdo scientist.
Brings me back to watching ST:ENT when I was a kid.

All right, that last episode was pretty weak. It felt too neat, too cheap, too rushed. I don't know. I guess I just expected more nuance somehow?

That wouldn't really be in the tradition, would it?
