wow...i've missed out on so much...id be here all night multi quoting...but i'll contribute where i can...

Conky...Sleep isn't one of my favourites either, much like electric wizard, i don't get pleasure listening to a full album...but i really like some of the riffs in their songs. But then again, I'm not a huge fan of groovy riffs...i like more epic stuff that YOB does...which is probably why i prefer the CtS album of Mastadons and i still don't get tired of listening to Opeth.

also on the AxeFx subject...i have first hand experience here...so feel i can chime in, with a little (not much) authority...my mate in London plays in a band, and he has a few really sick amps, and his also the bands recorder/producer and does some producing on the side and his really tech, so gets a lot of the digital stuff. Anyway...he's had about a 2 year back and forth between Amps+Pedals vs Digital...first he replaced everything with the Axe Fx...but after a short while he got his amps and pedals back. He then decided that Kemper was better...and sold his shit and bought the kemper. Recently he bought his amp and pedals again, but kept the Kemper. His verdict was that the Kemper is far superior to AxeFx, but when he played live, he loved the real and pedals way more than the Kemper. He had a bunch technical reasons too, but i don't get that shit, so i didn't really listen.

What he does now is he plays at home with the Kemper, he records with the Kemper and he plays live with his amp and pedals. I was at his plays and playing through the kemper...to me that thing looks like the cock pit of a 747, way too many buttons and i would not get along with it...but he completely gets and and was messing with buttons knobs...and i managed to get a really good tone out of it for doom...not to dissimilar to my Matamp and Quantum Mystic. It wasn't perfect, but it was damn close. So it can do doom, definitely...but his thoughts were that it sucked for live.

Cool, thanks for you input. Truthfully I am not that interested in the Kemper as it an impulse response "profiler" compared to the "modeling" amp of the axe fx. In other words the kemper runs a signal through an amp set up and uses that signal to make a "profile" of that amp and tries to exactly replicate it. Once you do this you have that amp set up, but only that amp set up. If you want say a matamp through a different cab then you would have to make another impulse. Another downside is that, as far as I understand it, you want an amp with the volume knob low for less gain and the knob all the way up for more gain you would have to do two separate profiles. In other words the profiles don't really work like a real amp, they are more like snap shots of an amp in a specific moment.

The Kemper probably sounds greats and there is nothing wrong with using impulse responses, I just don't think it is good for a whole amp set up. I like how on the axe fx the amp and cab are separate and it is the cab block using the impulse response. That way, you model the amp's circuit, allowing for tweaks, and then you choose which cab will modify the amp set up. It is kinda like altiverb and other impulse response reverbs. You have your recorded sound and you run it through different selections that have "profiled" different reverb locations.

I wasn't even planning on using the cab section most of the time anyway as the set up I pictured in my head would be the axe fx into a power amp and into my speaker cab. That way it would feel like a "real" amp set up in the practice space and live. I would however do an ir of my cab so when I carried it home I could use the simulated version of my cab. But that it all thousands of dollars that I don't have, so what the fuck does it matter.

Stomach's right though -- they're not really a band you need to put it work to really appreciate (although I guess you could argue that Dopesmoker/Jerusalem takes effort, but for me: you either get it or you don't).

I couldn't imagine trying to get into them now, though. Not after everyone and their mother decided to bite that steez.

Oh, I've never gotten that far in because it sucks so much. I guess I don't get it. I first heard them when Gummo came out and I liked Dragonaut the first few times I heard it but then it just got old and the rest of their stuff wasn't all that impressive to me either. I was hoping that my musical taste buds would change but it ain't happening with them. I've been trying with the new Pallbearer album too but I still can't get into it.

You're lucky, at least your bandmates are all in the same state. Our drummer just moved to Jacksonville and our bassist lives in Cartersville now. We're so spread out now that I fear our slow asses are gonna take forever to write stuff now.

I've never liked pallbearer and don't really get the hype.

On another note, I just got some patch plugs, basically patch cables without the cable. Will take a while to test them out but it's eliminated about a foot of cable so that's something. Edit: the plug things are those gold connectors joining the wah, phase and naga viper. They only work if all the pedals are identical enclosures obviously.

Also put the LSTR on my board. It never lasted on my board VS other options before but it's sounding awesome to me now. How is it that BAT pedals all sound so good with the tone knob on zero. Sounds like it's switched out of the circuit or something.

And I run a bunch of stuff with tone rolled off. It really opens a world of possibilities. Between having a tone knob on your guitar, the tone control(s) on whatever dirt pedal you're running and the EQ knobs on your amp, I feel like there are tons of killer options that are unexplored for a lot of players.

btw, have any of you guys played that Daredevil Black Yorba Fuzz? I've been looking for a bubble font clone with a smaller footprint for ages, and I've been through the vast majority of other "green Russian" and tall font clones nonplussed. Nothing sounds as good as my bubble font. Problem is, I can't really shut my road case with that behemoth on the board. I've already broken one case...

Anyone?

Pedal in the bottom left corner is a bypass loop toggle pedal from American Loopers. So after the tuner, wah, phaser and boost I either have the dirt loop on, fuzz and Carbon Copy, or I have the clean loop on, synth, delay and reverb. After the loop switcher is just the Ditto. I'm a left foot switcher so it makes it easy to stomp between quiet/spacy and loud/fuzzy.

P.S. Notice how clean my board is because I haven't played a show in years and it only travels between my apartment and jam room in it's case. No stage grime on that thing.

That's what I'm here for! Epic is good, but I live for the groovy riffs.

BTW there is no way I'm going to spend my time fucking around with a bunch of algorithms just to get a sound for playing live music. It's fully possible to plug one guitar into one pedal into one amp and rock the fuck out, so there's no sense scrolling through menus. Although I have friends who genuinely seem to like messing with that stuff, so more power to 'em.
