I got to play it last night and it fucking ruled. I tried it through a combination of cabs but in the end it sounded best through just a single 412 loaded with eminence governors. It's loud and thick sounding. Kinda like a plexi but with a ton more hair and grit when pushed. I played the "bass" channel but on guitar. Just used a booster and a compressor with my Gibson. Plenty of crunch and gain (I was pushing it pretty hard). Might try a few fuzz pedals but it just sounded so good as is. Kinda like a mixture of a plexi and a Matamp/or120. Actually, I would say that's a pretty fair description as far as comparison. It's got the mids and crunch of a Marshall but the low end and thick fuzzy saturation of a Matamp. I haven't opened it up yet but I know it's supposed to be similar to an old plexi with partridge transformers.

Also, that 370 also sounded great last night out of our 408. Used a dod Bass Grunge and it was fucking killer. I mean, it's not replacing the SVT or anything, but I've been wanting this as a backup for years. Was always my favorite solid state.

GASing super hard for a 370. Then again, I already have four amplifiers (well, five if you count the Orange), so I realllllly don't need more.

Also, picked up an Afterneath and DAMN that thing is awesome.

I've heard plenty of 370's in the past and it still impressed me when I plugged in and played. Such a solid amp. I didn't need it in any sense. It's literally my backup's backup, haha, but I just happen to come across it at the right time and couldn't say no. It's just about loud enough for our bass player to keep up in volume, so maybe it will save wear and usage on the SVT during those four hour long practices a few nights a week. Eek ><

I know this topic has been covered a lot, and forgive me if it's redundant by now, but after trying out a handful of cabs and combinations I came to the conclusion that my amps are always louder and more articulate through a single 4x12 than a 6x12. Every time I play a 6x12, though they sound great and definitely push volume for the most part, it's never as loud as just a 4x12. It sucks because I have two 6x12 rigs and now I'm just going to use single 412's after trying different amps through different cabs. When I do the 612 rig the two speakers opposite of the 412 are always louder while the 412 side of it is barely pushing any volume. I knew this, so I tried setting up a combination of higher powered 212's and lower power 412's, and although it helped out, it still wasn't as loud as just a single 412. And this is using 100-150w amps. Anyone else with 612's experiencing this? Or is it just not enough of an issue to care about the volume and uneven power distribution issue? I'm not trying to talk shit on 612 rigs, like I said I have two of them >< it's just been bugging me the last few days.

I would say it's just speakers but I don't really know enough what you have loaded and what you compare to. cause I have one 612 that I say is on par with some of my 412's but lower than others but one I build for a client with a different load out where it's louder than all of them.

Thanks. I know there's gotta be some type of science behind making a 612 sound great as a single piece. One of my rigs is a 412 with eminence govs (50w - 101db each, 8 ohm total) and a 212 with scumnicos (65w - 98db each, 8 ohm total). The 212 is 3x louder than the 412 when played together. Seems like the 412 isn't even pushing any volume. With the same out out of just the 412 alone, it's a much louder rig.

The other one is a 412 with v30's at 16 ohms and a 212 with evm12l's (200w - 101db each, 16 ohms total). This combination works smoother, but together also doesn't sound as loud as just the 412 with v30's. All the cabs sound great on their own and the amps I'm using spit plenty of power to power two cabs. Just seems like my speaker choices aren't making the 612 rigs sound as good as individual cabs. Don't know.

I don't mind using single 412 cabs. Especially if clearly they are louder and better sounding with my set up. Just figured I'd check and see if anyone else has some insight.

what seems to work to me at least is celestion hot 100's for the top and the bottom is G12-75s @16 ohms that's the one that's equal volume to 412's the client one is hot 100's with 7080's but at 8 ohms. both are run with single outputs.

Not that anyone here has any use for something like this, but I just got my OCD cloned and boned. I'm gonna hang on to the original as a backup, but this new one should be nuts. I had it built with a clean blend, so I can crank everything and roll the tone back for super woolly sounds and then blend some clean back in for chords. Because of the blend, the guy had to add a second volume control to compensate for any signal loss, which means this thing will be LOUD. I also had him add a few different clipping options to play with, and one is socketed and empty for me to experiment with. With no clippers it will be even more LOUD.

So stoked.

As far as the 612s go, I prefer a 412 setup personally. I used to run a 212 and 412 together, but didn't notice a huge difference in volume, although the extra speakers did fill out the sound nicely. Having 2 heads with a single cab each is more than enough for me, and I'm never in the mood to have to move anything bigger than a 412.
