4 WGS ET65's and a 2 ET90's. I haven't decided if I like them or not yet honestly, I haven't had a lot of chances to play with it so far. Trying to pick out a clean, pedal platform friendly tube micro head for home is doing my head in. Seems like they're all meant to be as dirty as possible so you can get power tube saturation at low volume. Either that or there's way too many bells and whistles and the cleans don't sound that great. I'm the worst and deciding how to spend money though. In a perfect world I'd only use Mr. Grumpy into the Atlas 6x12 at full volume in all situations.

Ampeg gvt is good for quiet clean pedal platform if you can pick up the 15 watt version.

I think I checked that out a while back when I first started looking for something. Aren't they already discontinued though?

What happened to the little fender you had?

Gone for long long time. The only guitar amps I have now are my Carvin X100B and Mr. Grumpy, I sold off everything else over the last few years. I was originally going to remove the chassis on the PRRI I had and make a head shell for it, but it was in mint condition and upgraded with a nice Weber speaker, so I just ended up selling it. I've been using the Carvin and my Celestion 65 loaded 2x12 for everything at home for a long while and it's just total overkill, power and space wise. So I was looking at getting a new 15w tube head and a 1x12 cab to go with it, since I have the GK MB800 and a ported DIY 1x10 already at home for bass and that works great and I can take the head out if want to jam loud.

The amps I had been considering were the Traynor DH15H, the Egnater Tweaker 15 and maybe one of the newer Peavey MH series heads (Classic or Valveking II). That's in order of interest, the Peavey stuff didn't really wow me so much in demo videos but seemed doable. The Traynor sounded great clean even from players that usually always sound terrible to me in most videos, though kind of hard to find and not much used, also no fx loop. Which isn't a deal breaker, but would be nice to have. The Egnater seemed decent and more abundant on the used market, though there are definitely some horror stories about Egnater import series transformers if you get the "wrong era" (plenty more "never had any problems with mine" stories too though, perspective). The Peavey ones are the newest, there's a few out there used, but they have tons of bells and whistles I don't need and seem passable, but not great on cleans. So I'm leaning towards the Traynor and trying to hunt down a deal at the moment, debating whether or not the lack of fx loop is enough to sway me one way or the other. If I had the cash I'd probably get something boutique that's advertised as being designed as a pedal platform like Dr. Z M12, Max 18 Jr or that Rivera head I can't remember the name of at the moment. The Traynor and the Egnater both use 6V6 power tubes though, which I prefer over EL84's and seem to be kind of hard to find in a lot of designs outside Fender combos.

Yeah they're discontinued, but I remember them popping up on eBay and reverb pretty frequently. But yeah you're right, all the mini heads are for people who want bedroom metal, whatever the hell that is.

There's probably some deals to be had out there if one really blew me away. Ampeg tube guitar heads are pretty neat, I've owned a couple vintage ones over the years, but there's something about the grit when slightly pushed that rubs me the wrong way (or just not to my taste right now) on the demo clips for the GVT15H I've found. Plus, I really don't need a spring reverb. If I did it would be a plus, because it does sound nice for spring reverb on a small amp.

I went ahead and bought a Traynor DH15H head. I was able to find a good price on a new one from a dealer, such that if I end up not liking it I could flip it for a fair price and not get burned.

Shame. I know T-Rey has one of those ampeg heads and that dude gets pretty sweet bedroom tones.

haven't had a chance to play it. Hell I've barely had any time to play the Ampeg V4b I had come in or even had time to get the Carvin X100b, Hiwatt S100L, and a slew of others fixed.


I figured since now I have completed my list of must haves now I'll get them fixed. I'm only after deals now. and this one was I feel at 9 with a flight case.
