Also, doom dudes, what 15s do y'all like? I want something that pairs well with V30s OR something that would pair nicely with WGS ET65s/90s. I want thick tones, no flub. THX.
PS Got rough mixes of album 2. People who only want stoner-y, fuzzed-out Khemmis will probably be bummed. People who want to hear Iron Maiden/70s Priest filtered through YOB and High on Fire will be stoked.
Iron Maiden through YOB/HoF sounds awesome. Am super pumped. Also... thanks for the e-mail correspondence. Pumped for pending package. Hail to the Khemmis overlords.

Iron Maiden and YOB are like my top 10 bands...so ill be happy im sure....but more importantly, as long you are happy with your album
BTW congrats on the album...can't imagine how I would feel after 2 weeks in the studio...we recently recorded our album in a day and that was fucking draining as it was!

V. excited for your next record. V. sad you aren't including Thin Lizzy in your breakdown.
This is 15"s for guitar, right?

Oh, there's Lizzy in there too. I think a better way for me to describe it would be "70s hard rock/metal filtered through YOB and High on Fire." Lots of harmonies, lots of guitar solos, a few death growls, a very Maiden-esque vocal delivery, etc.
As for the speaker, it will indeed be for guitar. I have an Atlas 2x12 + 1x15 headed my way later this summer. I'm going to pair it with one of the following sets of 12" speakers: V30s, ET65s, ET90s. The WGS 15 looks really good, though I know lots of people use Big Bens and love 'em. Maybe a Jensen? Oh, and it has to be 16 ohm -- going to have 2 8 ohm 12" speakers in there because I need the total impedance to be 8 ohms. I saw Celestion has one that people seem to like, but it only comes with 8 ohm impedance.

Haven't posted in a while but been popping in every now and then to see whats up.
Congrats on the album.
I have a weber michigan 15 that I was using in conjunction with a 2x12 loaded with eminence tonkers for a while. I used that set up until I got a sunn 412L that I loaded up with et90s. Loving the et 90s. I haven't tried the weber with the sunn but it was sounding good with the tonkers. Gave a nice bottom end. It is only 100 watts compared to the big ben which is double that but if you match it with et65 it should do well.

Hey Ben, if that 15" Celestion came in 4ohm you might be able to swing an 8ohm load overall. If you had two 8ohm 12s wired parallel to get you to 4ohms, then wire that in series with the 4ohm 15", you'd end up with an 8ohm load for the cab, no? That might be inaccurate or a sonically-undesirable way to do it, but I'm just spitballing options here.

Unfortunately it looks like it only comes in at 8 ohms. Shit, looks like it's true of the Big Ben as well? Well, looks like it's WGS or Jensen.

T'was meant to be then. If there was a speaker called "Big Jake," I'd buy it. I'd buy the shit out of it.
Pics when those cabs get done, of course. Grant was telling me the wait is like 6 months now. Worth it.
Edit: Sorry, misread your post. Seems like you're somewhat painted into a corner. I've never had this speaker, but I can vouch for how great WGS speakers are in my and a few other people's cabs.

I have a pair of those Big Ben 15's...had them since they came out in a Matamp 2x15, I like them a lot. The blend well with my EV 12L's in my other Matamp cab.

Went with a Jensen MOD 15. Will be pairing it with a pair of WGS ET90s or, if I can find a deal on a used pair, Weber Dire Wolves.

i've often thought about the EV speakers...whats the main characteristic of an EV vs something like a Celestion k100? as those are the speakers i have in my cabs.
I'm also considering in the future to get 2 1x15 cabs to add to my set up...currently run 2 amps into 2 4x12's...adding a 1x15 to each rig would be pretty cool I think.

realizing it's not that vintage GK steez but picked up a GK Backline 600 which, I recall from the days of my youth, having a pretty sweet dirty sound, I could be way off but I couldn't pass it up at $60. Excited to let the bassist have a slam at it on practice this week.

The EV's have a really wide frequency range and they can handle a ton of volume and bass and not distort, I hate speaker distortion. If your amp is super bright and you don't want that then it might not be the best idea but I've never had an issue with my Matamp's or Sunn's.

yeah never had any issue with bright amps...I have a matamp and orange tv200...i like these celestions cause i dont get speaker distortion (i that too) and also the bottom comes really nicely, not too tight, and overall they are very neutral.
Main reason for the 1x15's is because we are two peice (2 guitarists and noise desks) so any more bottom we can add the better...so with that in mind, the EV's seem to be a good choice.
