I was in the car listening to Gold today.
it just fucking rips in all the right ways. Honestly, the riffs just GROOVE so fucking hard in all the best ways.
You know when you're fucking around and you just write some random riff that rips -- all whores songs are that riff.

Saw high on fire in Boston last night. Absolutely killer. Matt pike's vocals were extra good, the bass and drums sounded amazing, and the band is super fuckin' tight. Glad I finally got to see them.
Meshugga headlined though and I cannot figure out what the hell I was listening to. It sounded like a construction site. Can anyone explain how meshugga works?

play something like that inhumanely fast. change time signatures a bunch and be weird and technical and pretty good. definitely not for everybody, though.

I wanted to ask yall doomfolks a question that had been nagging me regarding Torche. What is that people like about them? I saw them like a year ago opening for Melt Banana and I never heard their stuff before then but most people that were there left after they played. I thought Torche was supposed to be really heavy but honestly they sounded like a slightly sludgier Foo Fighters. Not in any negative way (unless you absolutely hate old foo fighters), from what all I heard I suspected them to sound a little more intense.
Anything I should listen to that may change my mind about them? I listened to Restarter and I wasn't too interested but with such high regards by folks who like doom and sludge it seems they must have some sick stuff.

Meanderthal is the album that the poppy sensibilities and the doom sensibilities really start to blur. In Return is heavier, I s'pose. I really enjoy Meanderthal. After that it's whatever to me.

Self Titled album is awesome. Doomy heaviness with pop hooks. Pretty good.

Meanderthal is not bad, Ill give it a more thorough listen to for sure. Nothing wrong with having fun, I guess I just don't find them that fun, but to each his own! I lived so close to the venue that I listened to about half their set went home and ate some grub, then saw melt banana so my opinion probably matters even less honestly. If I want to have real fun I probably would listen to old RnB and drink a bunch of shitty beer haha.
