It's a reel to reel recorder for film with a time code track for sync.

Did you find a US version, Ruiner or are you using a step-up box?

It's a Nagra IV-S portable reel to reel. A pretty famous unit back in its day and even now. Supposedly it has an amazing preamp that you can use going direct or recording to the tape. It was used for films and field recording a lot but became a staple in many music studios due to how good it sounded. This is the stereo version that is highly regarded for recording music. I plan on using it for recording tracks to obviously but also for field recording and splicing tape loops. Should be fun. :snax:

Not sure. This one comes with a power pack and also can be powered with batteries. It was serviced in Los Angeles about a year ago and since then has only been used once on a film the guy worked on here in the states.

Should be fine then. There are changes to the preamp/eq based on power due to the speed difference between European and US broadcast (PAL, NTSC//may not matter really since you'll most likely rerecord before video sync anyway). There was a version without the timecode that supposedly has better sound too.

Good pickup!

This is the IV-S which i believe has the best preamp / sound.... the timecode is a mod and not the unit that comes with the timecode which is iv-stc or something like that... i could be wrong though.

The sans-timecode has a bigger audio recording head and decrease in noise (all are great though from what I hear).

Doug worked with me on prices since I said I was going to buy 4 or 5 but got 6. He's an awesome dude. I happen to love the album he put out before the new one so he threw the new album in with the bundle. Super Awesome!

My only regret is not getting the deluxe pitch pirate too! Until next time!
