Nope! In fact the company that did was at the NAMM when I went. Guys name is Novak and he patented it in 89 or so.

yurp. Novak patented it, i can't remember if his patent expired or if Dingwall licensed it, but i don't think Novak even offers basses? some guitars originally?

Ralph Novak didn't invent fanned frets either. He just introduced the concept in modern instruments.

Almost anything you can think of to do to guitars or basses has pretty much already been attempted before.
