i was chuffed to discover that Cioks sells an adapter that allows you to run the EXH toob units from their power supplies. that'll be handy if i decide to keep the Black Finger. i HATE pedals with individual wall warts.

the Generation Loss Mk II arrived today. i think it's going to work out. i decided to reconfigure the FEB and put the Octave Multiplexer back on because it's such an important part of the loops. the power supply is a Voodoo Labs High-Current that serves up 500 mA x 8 ports and drives a VL 4-port expander module that runs the WIIO, LF7, and reverbs which are the lowest-draw other than the OM and Hi 5. i could conceivably cram the Attack Decay on too, but i feel OK with running it as an off-board device via one of the remaining power supply ports. as per normal practice the things that will get adjusted the least are on the top tier, the ones that will get tweaked a lot are on the front for easy reach, and input and output are at lower right and upper left respectively.

i'm getting very close to being done with twiddling pedalboards. the big board fuzz array could always change and i need to mess with the Empress Nebulus on the normie board to dial in the settings better, but there's not a lot left to do.

signal path: Mellowtone Hi 5 clean boost->EHX Octave Multiplexer->Catalinbread WIIO v.3 Hiwatt overdrive->Ibanez LF7 Lo Fi->Stomping Stones Virus->Analog Music Co. So High So Low high/low-pass filter->Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water->Chase Bliss/Cooper fx Generation Loss Mk II-> Fjord Fuzz MIME reverb ->Farm Pedals Expanding Universe reverb.

i feel mildly ill when contemplating how much i spent on power supplies and patch cables in the last 6 months. Cioks Superpower Bundle for the main board, Cioks CS7 for the Normie Board, and a Voodoo Lab PP3 High Current + 4-port expander module for the FEB. a thousand bucks in fucking power supplies. but by god, things are quiet. i still want a Cioks 4-port expander for the big board so there's more than enough slots, but i don't really need it right this second.

i discovered a neat trick with the Flashback delay on the big board, which is that in 2290 mode with trails on and the feedback maxed you can build up a bunch of layers pushed out to the unit's ~2 second max, switch off, and it'll keep going while you play over the top. it's not quite infinite feedback and will die down over several minutes, but if you play around with it you can keep a vibe going indefinitely.

Never regretted the outlay of upgrading from the OneSpot daisy chain to the Eventide/Cioks PowerMax v2, which is a DC7 without voltage switching on 3/7 of the taps. It just makes life better. I'm definitely trying to keep to a comparatively minimalist board but when that breaks, yeah, a 4/PowerMini or an 8 is calling.

I'm flashing back to notepad pages of voltage and current requirements and looking to see how to make it work and whether more budget options could keep up. I don't have to do that sort of worrying now. The only downside of these Cioks supplies is they don't do AC if you need that, though some of their older stuff does.

i have a Google Doc or Apple Note that has most of my pedals’ current requirements.

i absolutely don’t regret upgrading the power supplies for everything. it’s so much better now, especially the main board which is the quietest it’s ever been. it just cost way too much. it was one of the Major Gear Issues that had to be dealt with.

i absolutely love it. every home should have one. it’s the heart of the FEB now. the filters are great and it’s very helpful to have both in one box, but it’s the Moogerfooger preamp circuit that’s the real bomb. i was waitlisted for four or five months and it was totally worth the wait. i can make my guitar sound like it’s coming over a pay phone from 1935.

I think the Cioks stuff is reasonably priced- they’re small, nearly indestructible, very reliable power supplies. What’s there to complain about? They work with nearly every pedal and I’ve never had one fail in something like 10 years. They even power small synths and rack units no prob.
