I don't have a beard any more. A senior vp at my company made a crack about me looking like the unabomber, and when I told my wife, she agreed.

Compared to jwar, I have the physique of an amoeba, but I did start going to the gym.

Nonetheless, I feel like you are still correct in both assessments.

Literally everyone's response to a beard that's not a five o'clock shadow, in my experience.
