I'm guessing it's a nightmare to build though
Pretty neat. Might build that someday.

i find myself really wanting to buy pedals nowadays to support the builders that i like. either on a personal level or those where i just want to support their craft and innovation
as opposed to sound alone

I just got an iRig Pro and it's a game changer... Condenser mics in the woods, secret lapel mics in public, midi at the lake, guitar > phone > sunn...

I'm gonna start a thread to get some input from you guys, but I'm gonna sell my main rig and move to a computer based rig. Gonna do preamps and buy some nice headphones or whatever will give me butt dripping tone
I do wanna try a small tube amp for guitar because i've always been curious, cause I don't feel comfortable playing my HD130 loudly while my roommates are home.

If you are into diy the Parasit Studio website has a vero layout. As far as an already made version

sorry. Someone else might know.

you guys worry about using the stand-by switch on amps?
how long of amp idle .. before you switch to stand-by?
i notice when i roll the volume knob off my guitar.
then strum for a sec.
then switch to stand-by - there's no pop.
if i don't do the strum part. the amp/tubes make that pop noise going into stand-by

static?

I just wait a minute or so on my amp.

Capacitance would be my guess.

I'm an amateur, the real electronics boffins around here might have more of an opinion or theory why though.

My amp tech tells me standby is a bad idea, but I forgot why and don't see him that often... The upside to that is that I haven't seen him for quite some time because he did such a good job fixing my shit up the last time my amp had a meltdown, that there's been no need to go back.
I usually just roll down the master volume and/or gain all the way counter clockwise and try to remember where I had them when we take a break or something.

That's because he's Dutch. I know quite a few people from Holland and when they do something, they do it right the first time as a matter of pride. My mechanic is from over there and I have never had to return with the same problem twice.

cool!
it's funny when you are looking for a "new' guitar and how you want to mod it comes before even finding the guitar… I blame companies for not making instruments the way I want them to be though… I mean why the fuck not put MetalZ pickups in a hollow body? Why must everything be used for what is "the traditional/trendy way"?… fuck! what is wrong with making guitar feed back MORE

Strumming will drain the caps, and popping occurs when there is a build up of charge on one side of the switch, so that makes total sense. The pop is only bad if it is loud enough to do bad things to your speakers, otherwise AFAIK it won't harm your amp as it's just a quick discharge of the capacitors.
You should use your standby switch while you are waiting for your tubes to warm up so the cathode doesn't get punched in the face by heaps of voltage. About 30 seconds is enough. But AFAIK once your tubes are warm it doesn't serve to protect your tubes at all - they are in no need of protection as they are already warm - you can safely just turn it off with the mains power switch.

I have a big popping problem with my Trace Elliot combo. It seems rather loud, so I tend to pull out the speaker jack before switching on and off to escape it
it's a solid state amp, but i'm not sure - could that harm the amp as well?

You're safe DarkAxel. It's just tube amps that need to be connected to a speaker, or load.
