I find this as a false equivalency, though.
This ignores the question of motive, and the reason why that question was immediately presented in that thread (using your example).

I imagine that part of this thread might be my fault because I can be a force of chaos here and have a fairly argumentative personality but, FWIW, this is how I tend to view ILF:
fcknoise wrote:and yeah i remember it being intimidating joining ilf, but i feel like even though its a bit clique-y it is quite welcoming and accepting. when it isnt its literally when people come in and do the entire crash and burn thing
Also, I still don't even know who "the clique" is. :idk:
I've long viewed jwar, D.o.S., Chank, UglyCasanova and JonnyAngle as the most easily recognizable/active members here, but even then I'm not sure whether being "IAMILFFAMOUS" counts as being "in" or what. There are plenty here that appear more active than they are simply because they end up posting in the right threads (does that count as being "clique-y"?), and others that I have no fucking clue who they are even though they have 10K posts, so.

Yeah ILF is SUPER prickly about self promoting type posts which I think adds to the overall "get off my lawn" vibe.

When a solicitor knocks on my door at home I kindly tell them I'm not interested and close the door. I don't call them a dickwad to their face and gather the neighbors with pitchforks.

Un. Cool.

This isn't a private club. It's a public forum. And again,

I don't think this complaint is unique to ILF though. The same could be said about almost any forum. People are more likely to respond to who they're familiar with. :idk:

Yeah part of it is that ILF is relatively low population compared to most forums. We need to fatten up :snax:

Yeah, but what do you when you're hanging out with a group of friends having a great time late at night and the dude shows up and decides he's gonna give you a long pitch despite seeing everyone glaring at him?

Also,

I'd like a citation because I just don't know what you mean by this.
Are you referring to people ignoring new threads or something else? Because new threads being ignored is just a rite of passage on all forums, and it's something that happens to all of us depending on the subject. :idk:

I would still kindly tell that person to chill out and that I wasn't interested and frankly would be bummed if any of my group of friends were straight up belligerent to 'em. I don't really have any friends who are quick tempered and aggro so :idk:

I'm sure I fail at this regularly but I try to act the same online as I do IRL.

I dunno.. it's more of a feeling/vibe thing. I think this thread is basically asking us how we feel or felt as n00bs here and my feelings were that when I tried to join in and contribute to a thread I was ignored a bunch and OG's just talked around me. I've been active in various gear type forums for probably 10-ish years and ILF has a very distinctly differnet cold kind of vibe. I'm fine with that now that I'm more familiar with the place and appreciate it for its quirky deviance, but we should be aware of how we treat newcomers. I think ILF would only benefit if a few more people stuck around.

Also, TGIF... I'm burnt!

This is new to me. I respect it, but I don't really see it. I might have gotten inside before this cold set though. In my experience most new people who post a little bit here and a little bit there somewhat frequently seem to get included quite well. Worra and Raj spring to mind. Sharktooth too.

Yeah tbh I feel like any worries of inclusion etc on my end have stemmed from my own insecurity. This seems to be a pretty friendly place if you just jump in and be nice. :idk:

That's not always the case but it can be.

I think the biggest deterrent is that we have kind of a hazing phase for new members. I mean, we can all pretend we don't, but we totally do. We treat them with a lot of scrutiny but it's most likely because we are a mostly self moderated forum.

I guess even the older members get kicked to the curb on occasion here.

I guess I can agree with that.
Never really thought about it, but kinda remember experiencing it and just going along with it.

I don't know, I guess it is kinda like being in a fraternity (and sorority? I didn't go to college :idk:) and those that don't "get" the humor and dynamic here might easily view it as hostility rather than people just kinda fucking around.
I'm sure some people might really view interactions negatively based on some of the political threads here, which we all know can get pretty rowdy, but even then a lot of it just seems to relate to what someone brings to the party rather than how the party actually is.

So maybe I should change the title to "Make BST great again"? lol

I've always sort of hung around the edges, but I love this place. The few people I've met from here irl are exactly the kind of people I'd hang out with in real life.

I just kinda see this place as the misfit table in the school cafeteria, you have the nerd, the dweeb, the spaz, the gothy one, the one obsesses with superheroes, etc.. All drawn together for protection from... Them...
