Anybody tried the MXR Brown Acid fuzz?

I'm looking for a solid but not super-expensive Tone Bender. I've never owned one before, and I don't understand the differences between the different versions (Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3). What's a good "keeper" Tone Bender for a noob?

Not me. At the same price point, you might try the Keeley Fuzz Bender. ---I use a Marq Won (Mark One) for dirtying up synth loops. Where are you at on Muffs? As you likely know, the circuitry is quite similar. I think the Muff has more sustain, with the Benders being more focused. Maybe try a Ram's Head reissue? That might be the Muff with the most clarity.

I have (and like) three EHX reissues - the Op Amp, Green Russian and Triangle. Are Tone Benders and Muffs redundant? I really need to be schooled on Tone Benders, I just know that it's a fuzz variant a lot of people like, which I've never tried. I believe I've tried most other types of fuzz (at least the most common ones).

The Ram's Head is at the heart of Gilmour's late-70s sound. The reissue is supposed to be smooth and loud. http://www.gilmourish.com/?p=8237 That was part of the transition from Fuzz Faces to Big Muffs. (not that I'm the biggest Floyd fan, but that sound was smoother than earlier fuzz tones...if that's what you want)

I've also thought about getting a Source Audio Kingmaker and just tweaking the software until I had the perfect vintage-inspired TB texture.

Possibly. (especially in a band mix or with a lot of other effects) Here's a condensed take (without getting into schematics/components): the early Benders were an outgrowth of the Maestro Fuzztone (the first commercial fuzz). The Muff was a tweaked Bender, but then someone in the UK decided the Bender should be more Muff-like. The Supa Tone Bender was born. (think the Jumbo TB also grew out of this)

Yardbirds/Zeppelin/early Who (Tonebenders)

Even in the early years of commercial fuzz, there were several variations and artist-only mods that were closely related. You had the Guild Foxey Lady, Marshall Supa Fuzz, and more. (not to mention the Fuzz Face, Shin-Ei & Fuzzrite were a part of the early fuzz era)

IME mk I, II, and III tone benders don't tend to have the exaggerated mid-scoop of muffs. Kit Rae clearly has more info than you can process on the subject: http://www.bigmuffpage.com/The_Tonebender_Timeline.html

I find most big muff variants to sound more alike than different (they all sound like big muffs, though I get that they don't sound exactly the same), but the two bender variants I have (mkiii and mkiv, both hybrid si/ge versions) sound completely different from one another.

Jumbo Tonebender and Supa Tonebender models are definitely Muff circuit family, with the others not particularly having any more in common than any other fuzz. Can some pull a Muff-y sound? Maybe, particularly if you want to ditch the mid scoop. But none of the non-Jumbo non-Supa Tonebenders do the diode soft clipping in the feedback loop of q2 and q3. Feels different, responds distinctly.

someone wants around 1600$ for a Fender reissue Model-T.

I think that's been the going rate for them (retail at least) for a while now. The originals are hitting $3K.

I thought the one local to me for $1300 was excessive but I guess this is the ballpark for these now days. Doesn't really seem worth it to me when you can just save a little more and get a science amp.

I thought the model-t RI was closest to the black-knob "evil twin" aka "the twin" that came after the red-knob "evil twin" but this is definitely not my area of expertise. The 90s twin with the black knobs is (i think?) the one with a bunch of extra gain. I've tried to parse this out a few times before and it's all very confusing.

I agree, it's pretty much my understanding that when Fender bought Sunn they just turned their "The Twin" into the reissue Model T. Thought I always heard it was the red knobs, so I have no idea.

I hate to have a pedalboard with more than 2 rows of pedals, but i can't seem to find a pedalboard large enough for what i want to place on it.
I mean, my actual one is large enough but has a lot of space stolen by the power supply because it doesn't have space to place it underneath. Does somebody have suggestions of pedalboards at least 70 x 35 cm with space under?
Another option could be to find a smaller one BUT with enough space to fit also the old-but HUGE-ehxPOG underneath and then turn it on with a small remote switch on top..
Not sure if it could fit because I have zero experience with pedaltrain-style boards.

Traded for a pedal with Velcro still on and didn’t realize it was super strength Velcro. Had to get a pry bar out to rearrange the board. Dinged my (trash) guitar when it came flying off.

Do people seriously need the super strength stuff to hold their boards together?
