waiting on the Blue Sky v1 which finally left Tuscon today. i also ordered a HAXAN from Jero which should ship
sooner rather than later. my monkey brain wants to shop, but i can’t think of much to buy. i don’t think there’s anything left on my Pedals To Obtain list.

It's NOS and I got it for a 41 dollar bid so it was destiny. It's basically an envelope-controlled Presence boost or cut depending on the settings, which is definitely something I can use, plus I love the idea of taking the unpopular chick and making her prom queen. Gimme dat butterface

Zagging. I’m putting my H90 plan on hold. Eventide Rose incoming. Just got really into the idea of having the one DDL that I can get really deep into and do a lot of quasi modded-PCM-42 stuff with. HX One is staying on the board to do the jack-of-all-trades stuff in pre/post routing. The zag also focuses me on getting rack things out of my rack.

Good luck! I remember being at a guitar center around 2010 when a rando walked up to me, and told me all about how that pedal was the best thing he ever used. I tried it and could barely hear a difference (which was probably due to trying it out in a guitar center with their terrible boss pedal demo pillar). I wonder if it would do interesting things in a feedback loop or inputless mixer setup?

Not that anyone would want to emulate my sound, but I love the EH-2 on my Clean board, first in the chain, then a bunch of digital delays and tremolos.

On another note, after 25+ years of playing Fenders and Fender-adjacent guitars (Reverend, late 70s Gretsch), I am going to buy a Gibson Les Paul. Middle age is in full effect, so for Spring Break, my partner and I are going to Sweetwater in Indiana so I can select the Gibson Les Paul of my dreams. I picked one up at Guitar Center and realized a current production 50s Standard is exactly what my hands crave.
My force of habit, I am an insect
I have to confess I'm proud as hell of that fact

I just saw that this existed: https://www.sonicake.com/products/porta ... s=e&_v=1.0

Pretty decent parallel/series mixer thing for $60. Will even do phase inversion for either or both loop signals. Doesn't come close to doing everything that the Cooper FX Signal Path Selector does, but if the sonic performance is decent this is a lot for the money. I might get one just so I can get some more of that juice.

Wow that is literally the same as the Old Blood Noise Endeavors Signal Blender :wha?: wonder if it “sounds” as discrete… compared to the boss ls2 and the ehx switchblade the OBNE is like taking a blanket off your sound… :idk:

Didn’t know the OBNE one, but obvious now. The Sonicake does add the series routing option, though, with the dry through path that can be mixed in. A handy addition.

I recently picked up a Musicom Parallelizer that came up cheap locally. It’s mono in, with three stereo loops, and midi on/off for the sends. Thought it could work on my noise board, replacing a setup where I was running three mono chains out of a Saturnworks splitter and then recombining in a nasty ole boss mixer. I’ve lost a few options (polarity, mixer overdrive and having to rethink some gain staging), but it takes up very little space and is much quieter. Also made me realise my (modded) EQ pedal is still noisey as fuck.

I had a Malekko Charlie Foxtrott but sold it about four years ago. When I realized my fault I put saved searches on a few platforms but never got a notification in at least a year, probably even two. I knew it is no Boss DS-1 but I really didn't expect it to be so rare in my corner of the world. All of a sudden two popped up nearly at the same time, both a bit too expensive and both sellers didn't accept my offer and sold it quickly to somebody else. Okay, I thought, another year or more without a Charlie Foxtrott for me. But then a third came up just a few days later at a very reasonable price (180€ shipped) and here I am, waiting for my newly acquired Charlie Foxtrott!

i had the interesting experience of testing pedals in person today for the first time since i left Chicago in 2013. there’s like two guitar-stuff shops in town and i seldom see things there or in Richmond that interest me, but they had five (!) different Animals Pedal overdrives so i tried them all. i was hopeful for the I Was A Wolf In The Forest which is a Wren & Cuff-designed Rat but like all Rats this one was also too noisy to use. 3 of the others didn’t appeal to me, but i brought home the Vintage Van Driving Is Very Fun which is a dual-mode pedal with Boost and OD flavors. the Boost goes from fairly clean to rather gnarly; the OD starts out cleaner than the highest Boost settings and becomes downright hostile when the gain is cranked. i’ll need to test it some more…even though i tried to approximate my own gear—they had a Princeton Reverb and an Epi Les Paul—neither was as good as my stuff. i’m thinking it could either become the first dirt on the Normie Board or replace the Distortion+ on the main board if it can get in that ballpark. i would have taken my entire small setup with my Princeton and one of my fave guitars but i live on the 5th floor, the elevator is out of service, and i decline to carry that shit up the stairs.

the Strymon Blue Sky arrived yesterday which was nice to have happen before the huge winter storm that’s due. i played the bouzouki through it and it seems like Mark Gardener is using some kind of compression before or after the verb. i’ll run the White Falcon, which is my closest thing to his 60s Gretsch 6120 with Filtertrons, through it and go from there. i only really like the setting Mark uses, Plate + Mod. the Shimmer is, well, shimmer, and the Room algo is kind of boring. Plate sans Mod is better than the Plate setting on the Keeley Realizer which is my other stompbox option. the MUZA has a plate setting, but it’s not great. i’m pretty sure it’s not as good as the rackmount ‘verbs, but the rack is a huge pain to deal with…it’s heavy for what it does and i’d need a stand or something to use it regularly. i don’t think i’ve even powered it up since i moved into this apartment a decade ago.

since i’ve come to something of a stopping point as far as board development, i got the electric bouzouki back out and have been diddling around with it. i found a Irish bouzouki hardshell case online for only $99 and also ordered a Shubb banjo capo similar to the one i’ve been using on guitar since the 1980s. the capo should help make the bouzouki more useable; with four string courses and that loooooong scale it’s tough to transpose to different keys.

i also got a clip-on tuner for the acoustics…the Boss phone tuner app isn’t great for wooden music. they had four or five different ones; i chose the DeltaLabs because it was the only one that gave the accuracy (+/- 1 cent which is as good as my Strobostomp) on the packaging. i stayed away from clip-ons forever because i saw too many guitars in the 80s with little dents on the headstock from tuners that assumedly were on the guitar when it fell down.

and my gf got me a 6-guitar folding stand that folds into a supersized briefcase. i’m delighted to note that it’s Sonic Blue.

Stylish! I got the Hercules 5-guitar stand with add-ons for 2 extra spots a couple years ago, and while not as stylish, it’s been very convenient. I’ve seen sales on that one many times since and would recommend.

My next thing on that front is looking for an affordable but not ugly in-case stand for my acoustics.
