Got a second hand Boss DD8 as I felt the need for a compact, simple delay. Really impressive!

I have experience with the entry Martin 12 and I liked it, but it’s a big ol dreadnaught.
I think I'll postpone the "project 12 string" for a bit and watch the local classifieds, maybe visit some shops when I'm traveling. I won't order online anymore but rather see if I can find a good guitar in the real world that I can try before buying. It's not that I need a 12 string right now...
:idk:

i think 12-string is like a unusual spice you get down off the shelf for special dishes. i love mine, but i seldom play it. it really is a different beast than 6-string guitar.

while on the modern Supro tip i discovered that they made a ResoGlass guitar with two of the single-coils-in-a-humbucker-shell and a piezo pickup in the bridge similar to the National i played 50 years ago but much better-sounding, so now i have non-Bigsby-related Supro GAS. great…another $1400 guitar i can’t afford. sigh.

i did find a used White Holiday online at Guitar Center with the piezo and a bridge Supro PU, for cheap because the previous owner stuck a coverless PAF-style humbucker with rails in with no cover and a cream Gibson-style surround. it looks ugly and dumb, as Frank Zappa might have said. the question of whether the pickup surrounds would mess with the knobs to the left of the pickups is yet to be determined. it’s tempting, but i’m not sure that a piezo really goes with the Bigsby pickups while it’s brilliant with the Supro pickups.

ugly. and dumb.
ugly. and dumb.

any Supro action will be down the road. the idea is more exciting than my current guitar projects, which aren’t that exciting other than the Galaxiemaster which will require a ton of work (by the time it’s done i’ll have sanded almost the entire surface area of the guitar between doing the body and the fingerboard). my urgency for finishing the Double Jet disappeared when i got the White Falcon which also has Filtertron pickups, and the Guild Jetstar is cool but needs various finish problems addressed. if i loved sanding, soldering, and polishing my life would be a lot easier. i might sell or trade one or both; the Double Jet is kind of redundant (though it’s more aggressive than the Falcon which could be useful), and really i’d rather have a Guild Thunderbird with its stock tremolo and Jaguar-esque array of switching options than the Jetstar. i have no idea what will seem right a year from now, which realistically is probably a proper timeframe to get the projects done.

the whole point of the project guitars was to get interesting cool-sounding pickups without having to spend $1000 a voice. now it’s starting to have the same cost problems as buying guitars off the rack, except that i can get exactly the specs i want. but it’s still kind of pricey.

the available demos aren't that great, but here's a demo of the Supro Martinique Deluxe with the piezo pickup in the bridge. $1200-1400 used. the originals had a magnetic pickup embedded in the plastic bridge base that didn't work very well from the one i played.

it's a shame they quit making these but the much less accurate Eastwood Airline guitars are doing fine.

i've just been watching some videos of gear demo guys talking about the impact of Trump's tariffs on the musical instrument industry, and it's making me glad i'm not really looking for new guitars or amps. i suppose that prices of odd shit could also go up, but i don't see the demand being enough to jack up, say, a used Supro or a Telecaster body "just because." and you'll only get tariffed on imports into the US if it's worth over $800, so i should be OK getting peculiar pickups from the UK and used on eBay, which generally seems better for the kind of odd junk i like to spin into gold.

i'm seeing a lot of those Powers electric guitars on Reverb. homie must be cranking them out like hamburgers. i really wish they weren't $4000...if they were half that i'd have to consider it, but i didn't even pay $4K for the White Falcon so i'm sure not gonna spend that much on a small closed-body hollow-ish guitar. but they really are right up my product street. unusual pickups, cool aesthetics, and some sick finishes.

Yeah, very interesting (in the bad way) to see what tariffs do to gear prices around the world. Hooray!

:thumb: I've had one for a few years now and you can't really go wrong. Sounds very good and does the job. Got "more interesting" and fancier delays but sometimes you just need old reliable.

that's why i still have my RV-3. it still pops up from time to time, and it's on my lo-fi board now. i have "better" and more capable delays and reverbs, but sometimes that funky old thing just works.

Yes indeed! Also as a kind of Frippentronics looper (by using one of the many delay modes) it does a cool job, and the best kept secret this pedal is the Twist function, that I found out you cna also trigger when the pedal is in bypass!
Actually, lately I had a bit of a Boss pedal revival (especially drive and distortion), and they still deliver!

Yes, it's like a momentary tempo shift feedback oscillation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTSrKdG5owU
(I think also the DD20 used to have such a feature)
