There's a Rhodes within driving distance that's affordable if I sell a couple of inherited guns that I'll never use since I stopped target shooting...

If you have guns, surely you don't need to worry about things being affordable?

Still have good memories of a show in a church basement about 10 yrs ago with some dude running a Rhodes through all kinds of fx, so it's an interest I would share. Having just given away an upright piano and a latter-day Kawai electronic piano beast b/c they were taking up too much space in my house, though, I'm perhaps not the most credible advocate

It's so much room... and some upkeep. But one of my favorite sounds. I thought about finding one of the Korg stage pianos or similar, but I have a nice Rhodes sample library already. Seems kind of pointless to just have a sample-based box to do the same thing (since it's not like I need to travel with it).

There was one in my school’s band room, growing up, but from what I recall someone had opened the top and bent up all the little lever arms that shake when a note is struck. A pity since the school probably could have gotten good money for it, if it had worked. Also a pity because I never got to play one, only look at the broken one.

Maybe it's just me, but even without a bunch of fx, I like the way a Rhodes sounds in a room so much better than any recording of one I've ever heard. Also, tuning the thing makes for big improvements tonally imo - it's way less "mushy" sounding when well-tuned, especially in the bass range....

My junior high had a Wurly, which I liked the sound of more. I wish I had found a cheap one while they were still actually cheap.

I make do with samples. And they're good samples but I'd like to play one irl for sure

Played a few gigs with a guy who lugged out a digital piano workstation thing plus his Rhodes and B3. It was absurd but also holy hell what a sound.

Yeah, I have to wonder whether a Nord covers all the bases here? (I also don't pay attention to digital pianos -- is there something just as good but cheaper now? I suppose a decent USB/MIDI keyboard into a Macbook Pro is also a good option with the right software instruments.)
