paired with a hiwatt DR201 it's the loudest half stack I've ever played. rivals SVT&NV412
the EV in orange cab were too directional, so I'm expecting even more projection in the mesa angled cab!

Ugh, pics of this half stack!? I love 200's. I've been wanting a MK3 Sound City 200 forever but they never come up. Hiwatt DR201 being my fallback option.

Fallback option? Damn.
DR201 is the friggin' sickest amp ever.

Mine has been in the shop since November... Unbelievably annoying.
All it needed was some new tube sockets.
The weirdo that had it before me (I am the second owner) put Vaseline or petroleum jelly or something weird in the tube sockets..
The one tube kept turning off and on randomly.
Brand new Mullards too.
I miss it so much.

Bummer to hear about your sockets. I think a 201 is my third or fourth fallback to be honest, haha. I like MK3 Sound City amps more than Hiwatt, so a 200 Custom is on the top of my list, right next to an OrMat OR200, which I'll probably never find, haha. But I do agree that the 201 is a phenomenal amp. I wouldn't mind one if it came down to it. I've been pretty happy with my blueline SVT lately, though.

My ears hurt thinking about that.

It sucks because anyone who has Ormat stuff usually plans on keeping it until death haha.
I actually came across a guy who isn't far from
Me that has an OR200... Obviously wants a crazy amount of money though.
I want to give it a go though, have never heard one in person. Anything I've heard on recording is right up my alley though!
seen a few Ormat slave's sell in Cali in the past year! You Should've snagged em' up...! Haha.

Do it!
Yeah, I saw those Slaves a few times but out of my price range for just being a power amp, haha.
I've spoken with Nick (Dunwich) a few times about an OR200 build, which I'll probably end up doing in the end, but I know he is pretty busy for a pretty long time... So I'll just have to wait it out and try not to spend my money on anything else unless it's a deal I can't pass up. At least I'm really enjoying my SVT, so it's not like I'm completely down or desperate :thumb:

For sure man!
I've been thinking about buying something new as well.
MUCH more reliable.
I hear you on the prices of those slaves..
Insanity. They sold quickly too.

I actually haven't played an SVT yet.. New or old...
Ampeg wise all I've played is a V4 (used to own) and the V6-B I have now, which is solid state. It sounds GREAT.

There was a 70's 2000's real cheap in Toronto not too long ago..
Wanted to snag it even though I don't need it,
Sold quickly I'm assuming.

I've only ever played mine which is old. Sounds great though. I used to have a v4 and didn't care for it too much. But now that I've fallen for my SVT, I kinda wanna give a v4 another try. Except they are ridiculously expensive for being maintenance hogs.

or you want pics of the DR201 on the mesa cab?... I'll get a good group photo by the end of the week. all my gear will be in one space for a short time this week (except for the univox 2x12 I have here at home with my Dual Showman head).

Since when are V4 mantenance hogs?
my bandmate has one and it's a rock. early 70's, still has original caps (tech said it'll probably never need to be recapped), original power tubes still strong. there's only the 6k11 tube that's been changed but aside from that it never had any work done and doesn't need it.

Yeah, I had an early one and it was great, never needed maintenance. But the later 70's one we had always needed maintenance and then it took a transformer in the end. If I were to get one again it would definitely be an early one. But I rather look out for an early 2000s at the price v4's are going.

Sort of disagree with the remark that it will never need a recap. Electrolytics have a finite lifespan upon which they can explode once they bulge enough. The specific lifespan of any one cap varies but generally after 30 years you want to recap the amp. Its kind of like replacing oil in a car, it can last past x miles but you generally want to service it as a preventative issue.
