just checked my emails - I bought a Standel Duette oil can unit on evilbay for - get this - $27.27 - about 9 years ago, and still haven't gotten it fixed up, so I did a search online and found this: https://reverb.com/item/18039675-rare-s ... uper-clean
guess I should get around to getting that fixed up, huh?

you could make some SERIOUS money flogging that to somebody from the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society...those people are totally goo-goo-bop about anything that says Standel on it.

Drums are fucking expensive, that's why I quit and got into guitar. A year later, I laughed when 2 of my pedals worth more than my drumkit

Two whatever-moments that happened to me yesterday:
GOOD ONE: i changed the strings to the Guild semiacoustic i haven't played in months, cleaned the frets, adjusted truss rod, bridge and intonation, and took it to rehearsals. The moment i plugged it in and started to play i realized how i missed that feeling and how it fits my hands and playing style (at least in a band context) like no other guitar. Probably its because i played it for such a long time that i developed my finger pressure and sensitivity on its size. The tonal possibilities are not like the strat i've been playing lately, but the feeling is sooo good.
BAD ONE: the moment when you have a show (probably the only one of 2020) in 3 days and your power brick decides to fuck up 6 of its 11 power outlets without any reason after years and years of trusty working without even the smallest problem.
Going the daisy-chain way, hums & ground noises here i come.

a Starfire IV (red), bought it about 9years ago or so. It's not an old one but it plays really well and the pickups are very dynamic considering they are the stock ones.

Nice - first guitar I ever played (borrowed for jam sessions only) was a 6Ts Starfire III. Not really the same as your IV, I know, but it left me with a permanent good feeling about Guild.
And I totally get what you mean about how important feel is in a guitar....

Premier Guitar article on the history of the boutique stompbox industry...focuses as much on the DIY community at parts. A lot (most?) people here know this stuff, but it was a decent enough read.
Gossip drop: who is Joe Gore so coyly talking about?
