Re: Polytope
I just picked up a Polytope used. My first Iron Ether Pedal. It sounds fantastic and creates a bunch of useful sounds, but I have a couple questions:
(1) The pedal seems pretty damn noisy. There is a lot of background noise and analog hiss associated with the four voices. Haven't heard this type of noise since I sold an old Electro Harmonix Echoflanger. Is this normal? Is the Polytope just an inherently noisy pedal?
(2) The pedal's speed knob seems a bit quirky. Most of the useful range of speed is confined to the first 1/4 of the knob and it jumps really quickly from slow to fast. Is this normal as well?
I just want to make sure that everything is working as intended.

Hmm. Maybe I am just being overly sensitive to it. All I know is that its quite a bit louder/noisier than my Analogman Chorus.
Anybody else have any thoughts?

Re: Polytope
Taylor, I've enjoyed the opportunity to own all of your pedal and the Polytope is by far my favorite. It is just so lush, so bright and amazing. You really, really knocked it out of the park with this one man.
I bought one of your new ones you posted a month or so. Best chorus sounds I've ever gotten. Now I want more.

Re: Polytope
Hey Jwar, thanks very much and I'm glad you're enjoying the pedal!
I didn't weigh in on the above noise talk back then, because sometimes people need to be able to discuss something openly without the manufacturer butting in and arguing. With that said, just for future readers of this thread, I wonder if people having a lot of hiss with the Polytope are using more of the bass cut filter than they really want? If you filter out all the low end with the filter control, and then boost the effect volume, you are boosting all the highs in your signal by a huge amount, which typically means amplifying all the noise in your chain.

Re: Polytope
Where do you guys run this in your chain? I'm having trouble finding a balance between too subtle and too wild. If I run it pre-fuzz it gets a little lost, but if I run it after, it sounds too digital. Sort of.

the only dirt pedals i use mine with are the elements and mini, and i run it elements (neutral sounding heavy distortion) -> polytope -> mini (mid gain OD preamp)
if it sounds too digital try mixing in less of the voice signal i guess. i like the way it sounds after distortion a lot but with really coloured-sounding pedals like the mini it generally sounds better before.
as far as just fuzz pedals go i can't really say, i generally never stack fuzz with modulation, always sounds off to me.
