Does he know I've sold hardly more than 30 AB-Synths?

that's a direct quote. 900 units shipped to GC and MF.

this reminds me of D'Addario

back in the big 80s, they were my first endorsement. Don Dawson was a GREAT artist relations guy, and thru his good graces and belief in my playing, i had the D'Addario endorsement. got strings REALLY cheap, and lots of cool swag.

then when he left the company, they basically CUT everyone that was not Satch or Vai......all in one fell swoop.

so i ended up with DR Strings. they are a family owned business (Dronge family, that used to own Guild Guitars)

their factory was about a mile from my parents house in Emerson NJ. they hired all LOCAL staff, and hired a lot of elderly and disabled people, and were REALLY a positive and local based business. AND they make great strings, still wind them by hand the old school way.

anyhow, back in 99 or so, i had posted on Usenet about what great strings they are, and how they still did it by hand, and that i thought they were better strings than D'Addario.

few days later, i get an email from Mr. D-addario HIMSELF, just REAMING me out, cursing at me, and asking me WHY THE FUCK DO YOU THINK A BUNCH OF OLD LADIES ARE BETTER THAN MY COMPUTER COTROLLED MACHINES????

i called DR Strings, and told them what happened.....that's when they told me that D'addario had already tried to sue them REPEATEDLY over minor little things like their packaging, etc.

D'addario is the LARGEST string manufacturer IN THE WORLD....and yet the PRESIDENT of the company felt threatened by a little company like DR?

it really feels like deja vu this week :picard:

actually, it's funny that you bring up the D'addario thing, i've been having debates whether or not to choose DR or D'Addario. I will not purchase D'addario strings ever again. thanks for the tip. I'm born and bred in Jersey. Support Jersey locals is what i'm about.

and i'm seriously mega-gassin over the AB-Synth right now.

I need a job. it's taken CONTROL of my list.

If my B-18 didn't blow it's tubes up i'd probably have it by the end of the week. But alas, a new set of 7027a's is needed. Thanks to Hyundai taking 3 hours to change my tire today, i missed the bid by 7 minutes. It was won for 37$. For a set of Sylvanias.

That shit had my name on it.

Sorry, just using the internet as an emotional release.

I'll be dreaming of AB-synths.
I've got a fuzzbox and i'm not afraid to use it

Wow. This has all been so entertaining in a gross way. I could never afford any ZVEX pedals anyway so I've never been that interested. And the way Vex bombed that thread with negativity just further put me off to his stuff. Dude must be super insecure.

If I ever become a THRILLIONAIRE I will bypass his product entirely and put in an order for 900 AB-Synths.

well, DR does make great strings.....they are known for their bass strings primarily.

but their guitar strings are just as good. the "pure blues" strings are 100% pure nickel old school style, a bit warmer than most, work well on strats and teles.

the "tite-fits" are your standard new style string, but are wound a bit tighter than usual, with a bit more mass to them than other companies.

one thing they have that's unique are the Zebras.....dual wound with brass AND nickel, they work great for acoustic electric guitars that have both piezo and magnetic pickups.

and they are great people to deal with, and truly are a community based employer who makes a difference in their town. :thumb:

While we are warning each other off of companies run by pricks, let me warn everyone here that the guys who run Chicago Iron are complete dicks.

On a thread on Talkbass about Wilson Effects making a clone of the old Tychobrahe Parapedal, the guy from Chicago Iron (who bought the Tychobrahe trademark) comes into the thread and throws a shitfit, totally disparaging the Wilson product, and Kevin Wilson himself. Lets just say that Mr. Wilson is quite well respected on Talkbass, and quite a few TB'ers let the Tychobrahe jerkoff know that they will never buy his product now.

Here is the thread, the WAAHHHHHmbulance arrives on post 43: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=484249

I use Thomistik Infelds and GHS Precision flats.

I was never happy with any other brands.

yes I'm a tone snob.

Wizard, too bad you missed those tubes. To me Sylvanias are the sound of Ampeg.

I think you'll love that B-18. It's a little more like a B-25 than the earlier B-15 but it kicks ass.

LOL

if i had any extra cash i'd be contributing to the video fund.

epic lulz will happen when you get that video up and running.

and on the topic of dr strings.... i play 11's, and a mix of bluesy indie stuff and ambient drone stuff (not together, mind you). any recommendations?

hcfx at the moment is a total :picard:

try the tite fits or the pure blues models......let me know what you think!

yeah, i did a little lurking in there today, does look a bit crazy there today. interesting to see some of the people there that used to support me and would PM me with questions or requests for help are now turning on me.

true colors...sigh.

but that's ok. they can have HCFX, and then one day Zachy will turn on THEM, and they will feel the same way.

I DO love the B-18. Personally i prefer the b-15, but the B-18 has the slightest bit more beef to it, and it's perfect. I play a '64 Gretsch Country Gentleman, and the B-18 made it sound perfect. PERFECT. I'm really bummed i missed the tubes. Right now i'll have to settle for the cheaper RCA's, which is what i had in it. Still good, but slightly not as good.

My buddy developed this tube that falls somewhere between a 6550 and 6L6 and he modded a Music Man head with them, and man i have never heard a head sound so good. The motherfucking guy knows tubes. I'll probably have him put them in when he begins production on these tubes.

Anyway

Does DR make flatwounds? my Gretsch really needs new strings. Like the ones ont here are like 5 years old, because i love the way flatwounds sound when they're dead. But they're getting to be be too rusty for my frets. Even taking good care and cleaning after i play doesn't prevent rust.

Tele is what i've got. I think these guys have just won me over.

Also, check him out calling me "kid" in his rebuttal to me. What an anal protrusion he is.
