I saw Geologist from Animal Collective open for Panda Bear last night and his set was SO FUCKIN INSPIRING. His rig seemed to be a modular with some kind of touch interface (not sure if it was a keyboard or PP or Tetra) on the bottom layer of a keyboard stand and a pedalboard with a mixer, pedals, and maybe a few other trinkets up top. It was a real treat to watch him, I never really recognized how integral he was in giving Animal Collective their sound until last night (other than ya know, understanding he was responsible for live mixing and most processing). On stuff like Meriweather I'd bet good money that he's the one building the sonic 'film' around which the tracks are all built. I really wish I'd brought a copy of my modular tour tape to give him, but alas.

Anywho, I had also seen him post from the AnCo account on MakeNoise's Insta when they announced the Mysteron was being discontinued that it was his favorite osc & that piqued my interest. There was a section of his set last night where he used it that basically sold me on the damn thing so I'm copping one today & I'll either have my Rings or tELHARMONIC or both up shortly. Maybe a Pressure Points as well once Stages arrives on Monday?

This is gonna sound dumb, but the monome stuff just feels a cut above everything else. It's all very "artisan" and some stuff like Aleph is confusing as hell but they are a new level of open source. You can message them on lines and have full convos about alt firmwares, coding new stuff, working on future releases, etc... Grid FEELS like it's worth what I paid for it. Some stuff doesn't always feel like it's worth the cash, but their stuff feels like it's worth it.

Ok quick thoughts. All my ish came in and I've briefly played around with new modules and stuff.

Stages might be Mutable's best module ever. It's so fucking intuitive. I haven't learned everything yet but my god it's so powerful! Self patching opens up so many possibilities. I feel confident in selling my Batumi soon and getting a second Stages to run 2 together. It's an absolute treat. Can't recommend it enough.

Marbles is very, very interesting. I don't understand all the controls yet. I have a general idea about it and it's an improvisational dream - idk if generative music has ever been this easy. I've never been huge on generative music either. Either way, I really, really enjoy using it with the oscillators I had in the rack. Strange side note: I think my Plonk is out of tune even though it's quantized... and Rings is acting strange as hell. I feel like I need to reset it somehow.

Just Friends made absolutely no sense so far, but I was so enamored by Stages that I wasn't super compelled to dig deeper.

murrrrr they shipped my Stages on Thursday, but tracking is saying not till Monday. i've got a little spot in my bedroom to use my main rack and my mixer with headphones, which. GOOD.

but really excited to try out Le Stagé.

Also just unboxed the Rook but won't be able to play with it for a while.
Towel scorn. Scorn the towel. Fuck you towel, you're nothing but a filthy rag and I wouldn't even wipe my ass with you. Towel scorn.
Alwaiz intrigued by tooby VCAs. Curious if it has any crispy clean tones, the Trogotronic really doesn't.
