I don't mind using my keyboard, although I am shitty at committing key functions to memory once you get beyond basic commands.
Hot keys is not my bag.

I have considered the steam streaming thingo to play my shot on my TV with a controller, but I dunno.
It'd be more so I could play on the couch and with speakers for a change.

Hyperlight looks really cool. It also makes me realize that there are benefits to being uninformed: some people have been waiting years for the game, but because I was unaware until it showed up on Steam, I didn't have to wait at all.

Yeah it's cool and fucking tough, realized quickly I don't have the natural skill nor the time to acquire it. I feel like a wimp (and I am) but I just got a refund, knew I would hardly play it

Also realized I have way too many games already and should just finish what I have first.

Man, I've been wanting to play Pokemon again for ages. Then I remember how much of a pain in the ass it is to get Gengar and then I just give up the idea.

EDIT:
I might just replay the re-release of Red on 3DS then maybe get Sun/Moon when it comes out. :idk:

Question: Games like DOTA or LoL or whatever......I don't really understand them and they seem really intimidating.
Can anyone give me a quick overview of them, the general plan to playing and what's it's like to start playing them? They don't seem noob friendly. I've tried watching a few videos of gameplay and I never understand what's going on.

I never played pokemon as a kid. I played through most of X and Sapphire recently, but haven't beat all the gyms in either. I get about half way in and lose interest. I'm not sure if that's because I don't understand the finer points of strategy or I'm an adult and it's repetitive. I liked Sapphire more than X.
I can see why it's addicting. love tiered loot games, and pokemon are loot. For me, it's the 3DS interface that's off putting for me. I don't play it a lot, and many of the games don't compel me to play (luigi's mansion, monster hunter 4, Zelda)......even though I enjoy playing them.
If I'm gaming, I'm on PC.......if I'm watching a movie, I'm watching the movie (not playing 3DS and watching the movie).....hard to play 3DS while playing guitar. :D I have a ton of downtime after work, but it's mostly doing something else. I haven't found how the 3DS fits yet.......so it collects dust most of the time.

All that said, I'll probably try to finish both X and Sapphire before the end of the year, and jump into the Sun/Moon when it comes out.

as someone who's played pokemon obsessively since early childhood, it is... not as much fun as an adult
i never caught on to the whole online aspect of it in more recent years and not being at school with friends to trade and battle with makes everything after the main story really boring. the games have been consistent enough IMO (people bashing the newer games are usually the bitter nostalgia-ridden type) but each time i pick up a new one i log less and less hours before zoning out.
i've wished for a long time that they'd make a proper console RPG again (i dunno about everyone else but i thought Colosseum fucking kicked SO much ass, the story was way more interesting and the 3D environment looked way better than the 3DS ones do 10 years later) but nintendo are committed to making everything simple and accessible so expecting a proper RPG from them at this point is like expecting them to stop putting fucking region locks on everything.
i agree about the 3DS interface too, it's not a terrible console but there's something 'casual' about it that makes me wanna put it down after an hour or so every time. LET ME WASTE MY LIFE AWAY GLEEFULLY DAMNIT. the only games i got addicted to on it were Zero Escape and A Link Between Worlds.

LoL is generally more noob friendly than Dota, but that's because it's alot simpler than Dota (not even a knock, just the truth). Generally, LoL forces their meta like no ones business, so you'll most likely see a lot of the same people in the same lanes because most people are absolutely terrified of trying something different. You CAN take different champions into different areas, but then you'll have to know what you're doing and what not.

Also in LoL you get a ton of mirror matches and that's dumb bullshit.

Dota, well, you're honestly just fucked until you get the hang of the game.
Nothing is going to describe it better than this link: https://purgegamers.true.io/g/dota-2-guide/

In other news, I'm sucked back into playing FFXIV again. fuck.

It's really interesting to hear the opinion of a pokemon veteran. :hello:
I have no idea what else you're talking about.

3DS is a great console that I love to not play.

That link made me :wha?:  3 lanes, just do it.....then...... :erm: :idk:

Thanks though. I appreciate your reply.

Was there a progression to playing those type of games? Like other old games you played to make LoL or Dota make sense?

well Dota evolved from a Warcraft 3 mod. LoL is a rip off of Dota when Dota shit the bed/until Steam got rights and rereleased it as Dota 2. Before that though, can't think of a game in the MOBA style.

It's really hard to get a feel for Dota. It's better if you can play with friends to help you because people are such queefs in that game it's unbelievable. It's going to be incredibly challenging no matter what, but personally thats what I love about it.

It's similar to making music in that the more you do it, the more you'll learn, and the more you'll realize how much you still have to learn.

TBH the only reason I play it is because I needed something to kill time that could run on my work laptop. Game is basically crack if you can get over the learning curve.
