yeah. i loaded the FX and it's fun but didna really grab me, the Synthbox sounds GOOD, i think the Tool needs it's own hardware? if i remember right it has a different setup of ins and outsssssss?
but i keep it in sampler BitBox mode always. such an awesome interface with the touch screen.

I think I saw an interview w 1010 breaux where he said any of The modules could be any other of the modules. Toolbox looks useful as fuck.

yah. i mean. i could TOTES be remembering wrong. but the Toolbox is the only "Series 2" module they have so far, and a couple colums that are gate ins on the other modules are CV outs it looks like?

Is there anything advantage wise on having a small modular set up vs using something like Audulus (or similar programs)? I ask because I have been continuously messing around with recording and it's almost all textural or synth based. So, I'm thinking about dropping a bass to get a few items that could produce different sounds I hear in my head (though I will have to do a lot of research). I'm just wonder what the advantage of having the hardware vs software would be in some of your opinions?
Immediacy. The experience of turning a knob and having all of the connections literalyl in front of you is so much different than moving your mouse and having a gui full of numbers and equations. Just like the act of playing music with traditional instruments is a collaborative process with the sounds themselves and the gear that produces them, same thing with eurorack. It's part of the reason a lot of eurorack models do simple things in very esoteric fashions, it makes you think differently.
Also, Audulus is a lot more...ahem, modular than a standard modular rack, as it goes component level rather than just modules. It has a pretty steep learning curve to do anything that's not beyond the mere basics. You might want to go with something like VCV Rack that's free to try your footing.
Do you have any specific VCV racks you’d recommend? I honestly am not intimidated by the learning curve if it achieves what I want. I’m just looking at a place to start that doesn’t equal a ton of money I don’t have. Plus I have limited studio space.

Holy crap my Just Friends came in last night and, yeah. I haven't even messed with it as a modulation source yet (sorry vid, I'll get there) but as a sort of complex/harmonic oscillator it is freaking fantastic. Whipped this up with only Morphagene and Just Friends as the sound sources (though I'm also using the mix out of JF to pass through Rings).

this is BitBox (sequenced by Numeric Repetitor) into DSM03 and all the melodics are Just Friends into Cold Mac into a pair of 3 Sisters -

Very cool! Like the sound of that DSM03 a lot.
So, modular friends, advice?
Seems like my case has run out of power. According to mg and the psu there should be enough juice in there, but when I actually start patching the last module to get added tends not to work right. If I patch fewer modules they'll all work but once all or most are going something becomes unhappy about it.
Clearly going off rated current draw from manufacturers and running close to the total is a recipe for this sort of thing with power fluctuations etc. Wouldn't dream of using a PSU so close to the rated current at work but the case came together in bits and pieces rather than a plan, so I've ended up in this position.
The case is a doepfer 3u with built in power rails and came with a PSU. I can't find any similar power supplies with more power without getting eurorack specific supplies which include a bunch of stuff I don't actually need so I'm loathe to do that.
Am I stuck with getting a new case and fitting it with appropriate power (sufficiently overrated for whatever I'm going to put in it...)? I don't really want to ditch any of my modules. If I were going new I'd probably buy a case with rails and no power and put in a power module and connect everything else with floating bus cables.

also, the cymbal like crash in there (becomes prominent at about 45 seconds in) is the trigger of the DSM03 envelope. USEFUL.
Coldy Brighty Anti-Moonlighty - i..... have no good advice. i have only bought assembled cases and never had a problem no matter what i put in.
whatcha gonna get with Euro Specific PSU's that seems like a waste?

Really that's super cool! Hadn't heard of that but looks like an excellent module!

I have no idea about modular synths or what you're talking about, but this sounds incredible to me. Please make more of them!

Well shucks thanks! I definitely will. There's more stuff in my sig (bandcamp/soundcloud) but I'm itching to patch up more Just Friends stuff. Probably today
