I'm working on losing weight. I'm biking around Colorado since I moved out, hopefully that will do some good.
I have also stopped drinking pop and sugary drinks (except for an occasional root beer) and eating better.
I just drank 5 cups of black coffee for breakfast and about to head out for a bikeride...

Make sure you take water dude. Coffee will dehydrate you so badly.

Indeed it will. Also, fruits are good for breakfast, and stuff like wholewheat, as they break down and give you energy slowly, keeping you going and fuller, longer.

I found that it's not so much the soda that is bad, but it is the high fructose corn syrup. Your body can't use HFCS, so it just ends up as fat around organs. Actually only your liver can break it down, so when it fills up the rest just starts caking on. Regular cane sugar (the stuff the throwback sodas are made out of) is able to be broken down and used by your body, so it ends up more likely being turned into energy. Diet anything will kill you or just make you sad, so fuck that shit.

intermittent fasting is the shit. i experimented with it for a while when i was really into the life extending properties it might have. i think everyone should fast for a little while, it really helps you realize how much of our life is structured around food. plus a lot of people aren't really familiar with the sensation of hunger.
i lost a little under 30 pounds in the last year mostly by just going vegetarian and moving more. i'm only 5'3'', so that made a big difference. i had to buy an almost entirely new wardrobe.
i used to run a lot, i'm thinking of starting that again in college. i love running. or at least, i do after the few weeks of hell it takes to get back in the swing of doing it.

i always wanted to join cross country in high school, but i never got around to it.

You are greatly overstating things. It is true that fructose is metabolized by the liver, while glucose can be broken down by the intestine and pancreas. But cane sugar and HFCS are chemically very similar to each other. Cane sugar is 50/50 glucose/fructose. HFCS is 45/55. And as far as I am aware, there have never been any studies that have show HFCS to contribute directly to obesity or any other health issues. I think a lot of the concern about it comes from the misguided idea that "natural = good, synthesized by a chemist = bad".
However, all of that aside, the only reason we use HFCS here in America is because the government caps domestic sugar production and puts a ridiculous tariff on foreign sugar, all so we can prop up the corn industry. That is bullshit and it pisses me off.

Getting back into the swing of it (intermittent fasting) now as part of my beer gut prevention program.

this was the study that really tipped my head into abandoning HFCS.
I forgot where I read the magazine article that condensed it (pop sci?), but HFCS ain't no joke. I don't think I overstated very much at all.

I just realized recently that all the diet soda I was drinking was probably working to kill me, trying to find a suitable replacement.
Also: I am guessing that I should stop eating Corn Syrup by the spoonful?
Learing lately that I am a major stress snacker, so if I could get my brain happy my stomache might fall in line.

I have pretty much been drinking water and unsweetened ice tea and black coffee. diet soda is pretty terrible for you, but I have been known to have some coke zero when I get weak.
For whatever reason, I have felt less hungry out in Colorado compared to Illinois. No idea why, but I haven't wanted to eat as much

It's the altidude, it makes you less hungry;
I just made that up but I feel like it sounds smart.
I love coke Zero, it pretty much kept me alive on my last china trip (where I lost 10 pounds!!)

yeah, but like everyone says that my body is working harder because of less oxygen, to me would mean that my body needs more fuel to work at the same levels. which makes no sense at all..
that did sound smart though.
i love coke zero though, it kept me going through the worst drive ever through the midwest, i prefer it to normal coke now (the drink, i still love the drug in its non diet form)

Is their a diet version of the drug?
I would assume that all cocaine aids in weight loss.
In fact I have been pleasantly suprised to have no
"Hey you should do meth, it's awesome for weightloss" replies on the thread
although I might have just opened that can of worms myself
