Anyone know any good, but somewhat cheap ones?
I'm totally clueless.... but I need one.

i've had some experience with the hart dynamics one... the cymbals were CRAP but the pads were decent. we were just using live cymbals anyway. the sounds are as good as they module you have - we used the DM5.
can't say enough good things about the pads. solid & cheap, we never saw a reason to upgrade. the heads were easy to replace as well.
we also taped all the cables together to form a kind of snake to connect to the pads themselves. once taped together it could be wrapped up as one big group and tossed in the back of the rack.
these photos are of the old band's drummer, not me, playing the kit.
gah, i forgot about the forum tag thing. let me fix this.

oh yeah, and this totally reminded me - the 'kick' pad wasn't the most secure thing in the world. it quickly became loose in its mount, so any time you'd hit it it would kind of bounce around resulting in multiple triggers. a little foam padding and tape fixed it right up and we never had any problems after that. considering the price and how easy it was to fix it wasn't that big of a deal.

You're the second person to recommend Hart Dynamics + DM5.
The cymbals don't really matter that much. But they would also need to be electric...
I need it for late night playing and synthy noises. I'd like to be able to run a neat setup for it... like a bass amp, and a pedalboard...
Like running a drum machine through effects, but with a live kit...

i guess the crash and ride were OK. i'd classify them as 'functional.' the hi hat trigger was a JOKE.

I have no experience w/ drum pads/brains, but might it be worth the time to attmept building some pads of your own? (I guess mounting would still be an issue, though)...
My friend uses a Simmons brain, but that sounds pretty cheesy, though I think the pads themselves are probably alright...
