I've always wanted a bass that looks just like this... wondering if anyone has tried it and if it's a quality horse.

I'm also thinking about a Mustang Bass... since I love how my Hofner feels (30" scale), and the Mustang is the same. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Looks real nice. If it plays half as good as it looks...

I've heard good things about it. Some folks recommend a pickup switch, and since it's single coil, there will be some unavoidable hum. Otherwise its pretty solid. I love my CV jazz.

Played one at guitar center a couple weeks ago. Seemed really nice, and played comfortably. Had the fat c shape neck if I remember correctly...never plugged in though, or really inspected it.

Cool.

Doesn't look like there's an "intermediate" Fender version... although we all know Squiers are hot shit lately.

Yea, I wanted to plug it in, but the only amp I was going to take the time to hook up would have been the new fender superbassman, which they did not have :grumpy:

Oh yea, I just remembered something that would stop me from getting it...the vintage style frets are too low for me. I do bends and whatnot so I prefer a good jumbo fret.

Sweet looking bass
Pickup change is easy, with some great choices available.
I love the sound of the single coil, in fact, I like my '51 reissue better than my 50th anniversary P.
Now if it only had a string through bridge.

If it helps, i played the blue one when the first CV serie came out. superb bass. We had a band jam going on and that thing fitted in there perfect. Playability was perfect. If i wouldn't have gone the route for a Mustang bass, i would have ended in having one.

FYI, Joe Gore's Seymour Duncan-hosted Tone Fiend blog article on subbing the pickup on a Japanese '51 reissue with a SD Quarter Pounder: http://www.seymourduncan.com/tonefiend/ ... tive-bass/
Good general description included of the '51 style pickup's general character. Not for everyone, but a neat flavor.

That looks striking, but I like the looks of the first one better. As long as they both play well, I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I agree either will work with just about any type of music from Jazz (dirty looks from purists aside) to death metal.
The first one is sexier.
Go to GC ( ) or other music store with a large selection and try them all out, with a strap if you can, find the one that feels, plays and sounds the best. That’s the one to buy.

Still love the look of that ass.

Not sure if I'm enough of a bass player to buy one.
