Fuck Fender's Quality Control ( not a NGD )

So I finally finished paying for my marr jag today and was so excited to take it home and play. As soon as I got home and took it out of the case, I noticed a chip in the finish that had produce even more cracking near the neck cavity, it looked like if I were to put any pressure on the neck it would just chip away further. That's not even the bad part. I figure I will plug it in and take 5mins to decide if it is worth taking back or not which it most certainly was I just wanted to hear it. Alas....there was no sound, 3 cables and 2 amps later I was back in my car....fuck. Won't hear from fender until Monday, I'm hoping its not another 40 day wait.

Yeah, for $1800 that's pretty shitty.
If you have any way of getting a message to Johnny Marr, (Facebook, Twitter, his website) I'd let him know.
I'll never have a sig guitar but if I did, I'd be pissed if Fender was putting out a shit product with my name on it.
You should use that cash to score an ASAT Special and an amp or some pedals.

Well I'm getting another, it felt right and played right. I have heard some people having issues with the paint. I have wanted one for too long to not get one, it was still beautiful
I should contact JM though, maybe when I see him in Chicago next month hah
I just can't believe there was no sound coming out of it at all

i've had mine for nearly a year and have had no problems--in fact, i've played it almost exclusively. was your box unopened directly from fender? if not, i wonder if it was a demo model. those issues sound too severe to have left the factory.

I've had paint issues on mine. It seems like they didn't let the undercoats dry long enough before throwing on the clear so there's bubbles and chipping. Maybe it's a feature of the guitar,
"get that cool "relic" finish you've always wanted within weeks!" I took the neck off to see if there were any shims and a big chip of paint stuck to the neck plate
I'll probably just refin it at some point since I'm not really excited by the white-on-cream look anyway.

Yea man, the fender forums and OSG both have a couple threads I have found of multiple people dealing with exactly what you described. I'm not too worried about the paint as long as it comes to me flawless and I am the one to ding it up. I just don't want to pay full price for essentially a B-stock. It's just my first "brand new" guitar as well as my first >$1,000 guitar. I was just baffled that it didn't make any sound whatsoever. new one is on the way shop says though. So if all the paint comes off in the next 5-10 years I will just stain it Costello jazzmaster style or refin in coral or seafoam.

The first Jaguar I ever special ordered (and later returned) had that paint chipping near the neck cavity as well. My buddy at GC kept swapping it out and every one that came in suffered from the same problem to some extent. It's very common with Fenders and usually occurs when the neck isn't carefully installed and/or removed. Be sure and pull it away from the body towards you, gently, and not up towards the headstock. This will help avoid finish cracking.
As far as electronic issues go, it happens. I've had a handful of Fenders with shitty 3-way toggles that needed replaced almost immediately and recently acquired a Custom Shop Jazzmaster with and output jack issue even though it was a nice switchcraft part. All easy fixes but definitely annoying when you have a brand new guitar with issues.
I recently saw a Pawn Shop Mustang that had been wired completely wrong straight from the factory. That one was a little more complicated as that wiring schem is not straightforward. I also hate that Fender won't send replacement parts unless you have an "authorized" tech, not even something as inexpensive as a new jack or toggle. My guy isn't Fender approved and there's nobody in town that's worth a shit. Either way, Fender won't budge on warranty until you find someone who's jumped through their hoops (ie paid the fees required to become and "authorized repair center"). Bullshit.
Anyway, beyond that jack issue, my Custom Shop JM is easily the greatest Fender I've ever laid hands on, just perfect in every way. I'm sure everything will work out fine in the end, just hang in there.

That's pretty shit for one of Fender's most expensive guitars. It happens though.

sounds similar to the problems they had in the early 80s with the leads.

Damn, I have heard that with that bridge (which isn't a fender mustang bridge someone else makes it) can have saddles flying about with lighter strings. Hopefully the 11's can cure that. I know the same guy makes a more narrow one I may try, since I don't really want a mastery since I sometimes use a wound G. I was reading a tgp thread and someone else had their saddles fly off during a show. Maybe shaving the barrels don't will make them more centralized? General consensus seems to be you either get one hell of a guitar or a lemon.

I recently put the bridge they use on the JM jag on my jag and I loooove it so I wouldn't be too quick to criticise that. Seriously sucks about the other stuff though, I would not expect to hear that about a guitar at that price.

I agree monkeydancer, I'm in no rush to change anything (part of the reason I chose the jagumarr over the 50th anniversary or an AVRI. I'm hoping my new one comes tomorrow and I can be happy ever after. The whole ordeal has just been stinky, ended up going through the only local shop I have and have just not been pleased with any of it.
