For all you fellow fuzzhounds, I'm sure you're just as picky with your fuzzes as I am, how do you rate the fuzz modellers out there?

Laptop: I have Scuffham S-Gear which is really cool but I don't use it for fuzz - I just go Guitar -> Fuzz pedal -> Laptop/S-Gear
I haven't been able to find a workable sound on Guitar Rig 5 demo

iPad: I haven't got an iPad yet but am looking forward to exploring what it can do.
The Octablue (obviously Octafuzz model) sounds decent on this, Amplitube:

So yeah any modellers out there you love? Anything you hate?

Much past "acceptable in a pinch", I'm not a modeled fuzz dude (despite having several modelers for other purposes). The more basic the fuzz, the more likely you are to find something "close" - but the simple fact is that at the price of cheap clones there's almost no reason to not just plug in one of those and use the modeler for other stuff.

I can "live" with the Rat/Muff models in the current Roland/Boss stuff, but...I'm not really a fan of either of those pedals so usefulness is limited (as is my caring about authenticity in spades).

Any of the modeled fuzzes generally sound a ton better into a dirty amp model though, it seems - they don't assume that the average guitar player where fuzz is concerned wants to be more than Hendrix on Parade.

I am using Amplitude and the amp models aren't too bad, about as good as the genII line6 stuff. The speaker/mic thing is a nice feature, while the pedals leave a lot to be desired.

But honestly, I have to say while it's not bad and fun to jam on, I love my '72 champ and pedals way better.

The joke with the Amplitude stuff is that they gave away the Fender pack when I bought the Mustang head.

I installed it once, was disappointed compared to the models in the actual amp and the sound/presence in the room, never used it again.

Yeah, I actually got into pedals precisely because I couldn't find a good modeled fuzz sound.
About the only modeled gain pedal I think sounds kinda okay is the OCD in Amplitube. I still use it sometimes for creating parallel distortion on DI'ed bass. TSE's tubescreamer VST sounds alright, too, but I just am really not into anything tubescreamer.
Modeled fuzz and distortion, to my ears at least, sounds very harsh in the 800-1k range, and with some of them (like the older Mokafix plugs) you can hear a lot of artifacts in the treble. I just don't think as much effort has gone into creating top-notch pedal modeling as has gone into tube modeling.

I also run pedals into Scuffham. S-gear is like the best hundred bucks I've spent!
Some of the amps in Amplitube sound pretty good, though, especially if you bypass the cabs and use third-party impulses like the Redwirez ones.
