Get ‘em on holiday sale for $160 while they last. I fear flipper hoarding.

I was thinking about selling mine too, but I guess I'd better keep it now

I wanted to snag this and build it up with my kids and then hopefully they'd catch the bleep bloop bug, but best I can find them is that $159 but no one will take a coupon on top of that and with taxes and shipping, I'm spending $200 so gonna pass. I also looked and seems like the put together part is like 5 screws with a screwdriver, I thought we might have some snapping in of resistors or something...
Do still want one, but GAS must be controlled a little bit, right?
I'm sure they will go up in selling price over time, but maybe not, it isn't like the moogerfoogers where people can have a real use for them. The werkstaat is just like a desktop drone synth, right?

Yeah I bought the kit and it really was not an involved build at all. It’s a little more in depth than a desktop drone synth, though. Pretty much a full semi-modular synth with a tiny keyboard, envelope, LFO, filter, etc.

If I get one, is there any point to going new then? I kinda really want one, but don't need it...but I know with the discontinuation it's kinda now or pay too much later.

If you don't really care about building it yourself, I'd say to just try to find one at a good price. Like I said, the build is pretty simple, but it's still fun. You can build it with like next to no DIY skill, but still feel like a DIYer. If you're just looking for one on Reverb or locally, I would make sure to get one with the expander. It's not really essential, but I much prefer the 1/4" jacks to the little wires

yeah, it's only DIY in the lightest sense, i'm not sure how much satisfaction you can get from just screwing it together. depends on the person.
but it's also a euro-friendly moog voice, and for cheaper than a lot of euro oscillators... i may grab one while they're around.

Most of the Werkstatts sold as New have the expander included as a bundle, which wasn't initially in the original run FWIW - having the euro-friendly jacks is very convenient, as I had a time fussing with the smaller Bastl pin-based synths myself.
It's possible Moog will revive it as they did with the Moogerfooger circuits, which were all discontinued for size & parts sourcing issues, and all of those eventually became the Minifoogers (albeit with less patching functionality and refined definition of most of the effects).
That being said, a beefed-up Werkstatt is probably in the cards someday, as it's been the intermediary/gateway non-app based device for people who don't want to spend $600 on a Mother or DFAM, and it's still a great Moog voice, nonetheless

From what Moog have said, I'm pretty sure a beefed up Werkstatt is a Mother32

I doubt Moog would ever go the Pocket Operator route (especially since the DIYness of the Werkstatt is probably keeping the price low), but you may have just convinced me otherwise.
I also know it’s not their job to offer every tier of synth for every price point, but I like to daydream sometimes.
But I’ll have to snag one before the year is over (for keeps this time), as I enjoyed it as a main brain in the past.
