ok so this is maybe/probably a candidate for the lead balloon award at the Dead Air awards ceremony, but i was watching this video on youtube and i found myself liking something about it that i couldn't quite put my finger on, and what came to me was - i was on the outside looking in - there was clearly a concept here, whether joking or not, that i was completely missing the context or cues to "get" and i found that outsider status...enjoyable
anybody else had that feeling, and some videos (or even pics) to add to this?

I dig it. I'm down for most any short instrumental. As well as "outside looking in." The outfits are a brown reason to live.

nice i know i need more of this feeling
which is weirdly jaded and, well...just weird
(the knowing i want more of it, not the feeling itself)

I don't get it.
But I feel kind of tingly.

I think that was the period when Hosono wanted them to audition to be the band in a Zatoichi film.

(going off amazon jp reviews of the DVD) the concept here is that this was part of a variety TV special that was basically YMO doing sketch comedy in 'dotera' which is like an obscure winter jacket that kabuki performers used to wear, then doing serious performances in the same getup, and people enjoyed the 'gap' humor.
but the thing about japanese variety TV is that even japanese people don't necessarily understand whats going on a lot of the time
that drum performance is though

thanks Paul - that is a weird-ass vid and i def feel more outside having watched it.
well, look, with deference to all the die-hards of this thread, let's be honest with ourselves - it's gonna die on the vine. the best we can expect is a thread resurrection in 12 years or so with muddled purpose and even spottier attendance, so let's all go out on top with our heroes, the YMO, opening for the mighty Tubes back in '79 @ the Greek - thumb disco in excelsis!
