:(
I've suddenly found that not only am I busier than ever (which is my own doing, I'll admit) but I'm also barely making my way financially. I only have about $60 for the next 8 days. Somehow, I manage to put all my effort into making something important to me go somewhere, only to pour all my resources into it and then not have it pan out. What in the ever-living FUCK?! I had to PAY to show my art, only to make a whopping $10 even though there were literally hundreds of people in attendance. I spent the last few years getting tattooed and doing what I could to get an apprenticeship, only to have the artists turn me down and end up with tendonitis, forcing me to quit that pursuit. My hands are too unreliable to do something like that on a consistent basis nowadays. Now....NOW I went from being a manager at my job that I feel totally stuck at to being a regular-ass employee so that I could focus on things outside of work (like art and gymnastics) only to wind up not making enough money to do anything besides feed myself and get to and from my job. I tried to make my life better and somehow made it harder. Fuck.

Now that I got that out of my system maybe I can go about looking for a better paying job. Even though I have zero trade skills and no college degree.

So.

Frustrated.

That sounds rough dude. I understand what that's like, I have felt unable to express myself in a satisfying way artistically for pretty much all my life. Or at least whatever it means for you to fully actualize your goals with art. I feel like the rest of my life is getting in the way and I can never make it work out. But I am also never going to give up because it's something that I really care about. Never stop trying man, I am sure it will be worth the struggle. I think true happiness is easier to see when you get to the end of your life, it's easy to get lost in the emptiness of unsatisfying moments.

Dude it's never too late to improve your state of education. I never started to get my act together till my mid 30s. By 41 I had successfully completed several courses including a diploma level course. It wasn't easy but nothing good should come easy.

Mild irritation category: buyer is reneging on a purchase from my Reverb store, doesn't have the decency to cancel the order and I'm not gonna re-list until he does because he seems like just the sort of douche to try to fuck me over for fun.

thanks dudes. I spent the better part of my afternoon yesterday looking into all the different ways I can promote my art. There are so many ways to sell online, and some even make prints. So far, the couple times I've tried that, it didn't work out, but an hour's worth of setting up free accounts is in my plans for the day. I would love to do art for bands, even just as a side gig, but no one seems to want to pay what it's worth for the time I invest.

I told myself recently that I'd rather be poor and doing things that matter to me than making good money but hating my job. So that's the plan until something pans out, I guess.

Thanks dude!

I spent well more than an hour trying to set up websites today..... with nothing achieved. Either my images weren't in the right format and I basically don't have the means to get them there (as in, I don't have a professional photo studio or money get good images made), or something stupid is up with the website.

For example: Artpal seems cool. They will print and ship prints for you. Easy, right? Well, apparently there's no way to set what size prints you can sell, so that they will look best. It just maximizes the image, which of course looks worse than the appropriate size (what's weird is that the original hi-def images I used to make full-size prints in the past are somehow smaller digitally than physically... :idk: ). So I go to find a contact email to ask about this, since it's not covered in their FAQ anywhere. Annnnd......no contact or support info anywhere.

What the hell kind of service doesn't have a support section or way to ask questions if they arise?

I guess it's just going to be trudging through the thousands of sites out there until I find someone who does it in a user-friendly way. Pain. In. The. ASS. Technology is supposed to make our lives easier, isn't it? Why does it feel more complicated?

Also, my custom instrument builders have disappeared from facebook and I have no idea how to contact them. If you know about this situation, please be respectful and don't call them out, as I don't know what's going on yet... If you DO know about it, them PM me if you have advice. Thanksdooooooods

I just made my own site, but have also used redbubble and they are pretty good. They give you a lot of good info on their formats and sizes and they have streamlined it a bit recently (used to be totally different things for shirts and prints). The prints I got from the were pretty good too (just greeting cards though). But yea, I prefer my own site and to do my own screen printing (if I ever get around to actually using all that stuff...been lazy the last few years or busy...eh :idk: )

The reason the images are different size is because of resolution. Like if you make an 9x12 image at 300dpi but they print at 600dpi, it is 4.5x6...it all depends on printing resolution. For high quality repros I always converted to vector and recolored it that way so that either I could send a scalable image or blow it up to any resolution (like take a 600x600px drawing and blow it up to 4000x4000 or whatever I needed). Raster drawing does have those limitations which is why I pretty much use GIMP for prep work and then Inkscape for all finish and repro work. I know your coloring is way more complex though (but it may be good to learn some of the more indepth blendings and stuff in vector). The other option is the old school way of photographing your work for repro and blowing it up in a dark room. Just start with the highest res your computer/scanner can handle though... (oh don't forget to add bleeds and stuff)

Sorry if you know all this, just trying to help.

Keep up the good work man! Really like your stuff

Wow man, thanks! I know some rudimentary stuff, but in general I dislike doing artwork on the computer, even though I know I should get passable at it.
