856 gain knob resetting unit

Hello. Just got an 856.

Something seems screwy with the gain knob.

When turned fully counter-clockwise, it does not silence the loop upon next playback.

When turned fully clockwise, it resets the entire unit.

I've tried a few different power supplies because that's the only thing I can think of.

Any insight appreciated.
