I mean, it's a $250 piece of scrap metal. I think it's warranted.

I consider myself a man of peace, but watching someone play a huge cowbell makes me want to punch them in the throat.

If you pick up the Mega Marvin you can start putting houses on Ventnor Ave. Then hotels later.

Ok--is there a way to write this delicately....probably not...

I admire experimenting/experimentalism, non-traditional methods of making music, etc. And I listen to quite a few "non traditional" musicians...

But: 1) I don't understand the logic in using something like that when one has so many other great tools, and directly following that line of thought: 2) The clip created on IG with that metal...thing...was awful. Like, fucking awful.

That's harsh, sure. But honest criticism.

Maybe if the music being produced was sharp, inspiring..."good"...we wouldn't be salting on a device like that. But it sounds awful.

Creativity doesn't always equal Good

Willing to be proven wrong, of course...

it sounds cool. if i was doing horror/Kenji Kawai GitS type movie scores, the springy metal wotsit would be perfect.

I can totally respect that.

1) Using tools in this manner produce results not easily obtained through other methods... i also hate software. Part of the enjoyment is the act itself in setting up a chain like this and using it in this manner. It's what I enjoy and ultimately that's what matters here.

2) The clip was thrown together in 5 seconds. Understand that when this is used it will be quite different. The contact mic will actually be mounted which will produce much more distinct results than just laying on top and moving around as it is here. I'm also going to be micing it overhead as well. Again, a lot of this is the actual act that I enjoy but I think the sound will be fantastic. That said, I actually like the sound in the thrown together clip. I would never use that as a finished product and it is nowhere close to being one but it got me excited and that's why i posted it. If it's awful to your ears that's fine, it's not to mine. Nothing wrong with that. Though, let me get this setup the way i'm going to use it and then share it with you within a finished product and see if you feel the same way. If so, no worries, different strokes for different folks but I think it may change your mind in it's proper form.

Uh, so yeah that clip was dope. A lot of sounds happening there. I just recently got a bag of contact mics from china and I'm excited to fool around with them on weird shit too. Nice job Ruiner, I personally enjoyed it. :thumb:

There is a rich tradition of non-conventional sound sources sourcing unique timbres in avant music.

There is a very traditional tradition of rich money sources purchasing their way into avant status.

BetterOffShred, Thanks! I saw somewher eon amazon 5 packs for like $5 or something like that. Need to find that source again.

D.o.S., I was just thinking about that the other day watching some some crazy sound art performance on YouTube. I'd like to use mine in a much more conventional and musical method but I think you're onto something there.
