Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
yah. i rarely sit down and program out a whole sequence with the knob. which you CAN do. but i have the last 3 set up as C major, C minor, C minor pentatonic scales. and i either copy one of those as a starting point and change up notes or just go with different X/Y/Rando CV progressions.
or Shred (randomize) the whole out, or Octave Shred (random, but constrained to one octave) one or more outs.
i love that it's as fun to use as a melodic sequencer as it is to use as a modulation sequencer.

A little Buchla noise. Not really a composition even though I work through 4 presets I made.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
hawtness suh. cool stuff in thar.
is it mostly the presets that makes you dig the Buchla more than Euro?
also, DOES ANYBODY HAVE A SINC ITER. I GOTS KNNNNNOB POSSSSST QUESTIONSSSSS.
well. one.
also also, i can NOT get the efx Mackie12FX i picked up for live use. but there's one verb algorithm that's decent. easier just to use that.
but mixer question - when i take 1/4 outs from the mixer main outs into a pair of channels on my home desk mixer, it cuts hellza bass unless i go into one of the channels that has a preamp. still plugging into the Instrument In, what's the difference?

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Thanks, Ben.
Presets are a big part of the power of the 200e. Beyond having different sounds and/or sequences by pressing a button, it becomes a performance tool. One can tweak the knobs and explore, then snap back to the preset. Right now, I really have control of knob settings via preset control (which offers a lot of control) but when I have $, I will move the touch controller out of the case and fill that space with 3 modules, 1 of which will be the matrix mixer. With that, I can reroute Audio and CV in addition to change knob settings with the preset control.
What else I love is the density of the modules as well as the UI. For that jam I recorded I used:
1/2 of a dual analog oscillator
1/4 of a digital oscillator (1 voice of a 4 voice)
3 of 4 AD Envelopes, EOD Pulses from 2 of them
1 of 4 LPGs
1 of 2 Bandpass Filters
1 of 6 channels of CV processing
Minimal functionality from the touch controller
2 of 6 channels in the CVable mixer
Due to design, I have multi outs from each voice of each audio source so that allows a lot of FMing and variations of a sound due to different processing etc.

I keep looking at this thread knowing that the gas will hurt me. It's a masochistic love.
I'll get knob wiggling soon.

They are 4u high and each "space" is 20hp wide. I have a 12 space case which is set up as 3 rows of 4 spaces, basically equivalent to a 9u 84hp sized case...BUT WAY SEXIER. I will put a pic up of the Buchla later today.behndy wrote:niiiiice. thanks for the summation pimpers!

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Decided to go ahead and order a Metropolis for sequencing duties. Seen enough demos of it that I couldn't resist once I found one at a decent price. I think it's gonna sound great with Plaits and Stages.
Gonna focus on getting some solid utilities and probably a new rack once I get back from a work trip in August.

Grey Scaly Butt Stuff - what kind of case you thinking? and fuck YAH Metropolis. thing is so boss. quirky, and would benefit from motorized sliders or some type of display changy LED sliders. but. BOSS.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
That Burst module does seem fun. Especially with probability, which more modules should have.
Also Befaco has an aesthetic that I'm really into.
@behndy -- I'm thinking about the Intellijel 7u cases. I like that it comes with a lid, has I/O built in, has a handle, retractable angled feet, and the 1u seems really useful in a smaller case. Even if the 1u module selection is limited, it seems like they are coming out with some cool stuff soonish (mini-sequencer, oscilloscope) and the modules they do have out are fairly inexpensive and free up 3u space for bigger modules like Metropolis. I like the idea of a case that becomes part of the instrument.
Right now I'm using a Make Noise powered skiff and it's fine but I'm starting to dislike the sliding rails and want to be able to keep my Mother 32 in the rack. 104hp goes faster than I expected.

My dark modular 416 is the first case I've had with threaded rails and holy hell I'll never go back to sliding nuts ever againgreyscales wrote:That Burst module does seem fun. Especially with probability, which more modules should have.
