Re: Etsyverb
I don't see it going well, but I could be wrong. Every time I have seen a smaller company get bought out, things change in a major way and not ever in a good direction. The changes are always to make the system more profitable.

Right? It sucks. Reverb is awesome for selling right now and buying. Sigh. Oh well.
I hope it doesn't screw crap up as well.

Hey, no need to worry:
"Your ability to buy, sell, learn, and connect on Reverb will not change."

Re: Etsyverb
How long until the mere act of listing costs money, I wonder?
I didn't know until today that Etsy was a publicly traded company, kowtowing to shareholders is poison.
I have misgivings.

I don’t see what you guys are complaining about. Who here among us hasn’t wanted a macrame-wrapped-lavender-infused delay pedal? Now we have that chance.

Re: Etsyverb
Considering how often I see posts on other forums/social media about how little Reverb gives a shit about seller protection and scammers, I'm not worked up even a little, honestly.
I wonder if this means CME is getting bought out, too?

Re: Etsyverb
it could be worse. at least Etsy is pretty dependable, and their sellers generally responsible. if it was Poshmark, though...

Re: Etsyverb
The problem with etsy is that it is diluted with a mixture of art and non art. People post things on there for far too cheap sometimes and fuck the market up. For instance, if you're a laser engraver, people on Etsy charge far less than the typical market value. It's a like a fucking hipster version of Wal-Mart. There are legit artists and folks on there, but fuck Etsy and Reverb and Ebay for that matter. None of them have integrity. Everyone needs a little Tegridy in them.

While I agree that undercutting/race to the bottom pricing is problematic, your complaint is leveled at the users - not the venue. I imagine if price fixing/regulation were to occur there would be a tidal wave of people bitching about their freedom.Jwar wrote:The problem with etsy is that it is diluted with a mixture of art and non art. I haven't put anything in my etsy shop in a very long while, and from a vehicle for sales stand point I don't have any complaints with either reverb or etsy, beyond the fact that etsy wants a listing fee, and that listing has a finite life span; whereas I can plop something on reverb at no cost and it'll coast until it sells.
Ultimatey, I've used both and found both preferable over eBay...
That said, the "invisible hand" of share holders is a threat, because there will *always* be the discussion of what to do to make shareholders more money while the shareholders themselves bring nothing to the table beyond onset capital and self serving opinion. So, it's like one of my go to vehicles for selling has just incurred a case of parasites.
Upside of course is that if they get too draining on the host the same thing that happened to eBay will occur - competition, but as the venue market saturates the baseline models will probably be grandfathered in, and it'll never be as good as it once was.
Way it goes, I suppose.
