Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
The BYOC Swede is another semi-affordable HM-2 option, though the prebuilt one I briefly owned a few years ago didn't have the staying power of the Walrus Red and EA Throat Locust that later replaced it. I also had a simplified version of the LWA HM-2 clone with internal EQ controls (Texas Chainsaw) that was difficult to dial in and sounded like raw butt with my rig at the time. At some point, I plan to pick up a TC Eyemaster for giggles and will post a mini review.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
Thinking about maybe picking up an Empress Tape Delay someone in my area is selling on the cheap. A Boss RE-20 has been my main delay for awhile now, I definitely like the sound of tape style delays and having a tap tempo. I feel like the Empress would have a bit more to offer in terms of features without being overwhelming and having my dry signal on an analog path seems like it would be better for my fuzz. The demos of them certainly sound nice. Actually pretty surprised that I'm having a hard time finding a more direct comparison between the Empress TD and the RE-20... Anyone try them both and can chime in with an opinion? Would the Empress be a good upgrade from the Boss?

I'm entering that phase in every loser guitar player's life where you stop looking so much at guitars/pedals/amps and instead look at folk instruments that you're pretty sure you can get a tune out of.
I'm fascinated by the shamisen and it's basically a cigar box guitar (3 strings, usually DGB) but i can get a bouzouki cheaper and it's probably a more useful sound.

i go through that phase every few years, and have a bouzouki in my Likes on Etsy just waiting for me to collect ~$260. i had a Portuguese-style mandolin i loved to bits, but its cedar top cracked. don't expect good workmanship on an instrument from Brazil. always wanted to play 5-string banjo, but i'm so utterly burnt on American vernacular/"roots" music that it would be very hard to find a use for it...the only thing to do with it would be jazz-esque shit, and there's no way on earth i'm ever gonna be Bela Fleck.

Haha I feel this.
I love my banjo but it doesn't get the playtime it deserves, because mostly I'm focussed on rock music. Then when I do play banjo I remember I'm still really bad at it.
No regrets though.
I use it for roots music and playing within modern contexts (e.g. extra flavour mixed into an electric guitar song).

Looks like Boss is teasing some new stuff. I’m seeing a bunch of people hypothesizing a waza small enclosure RE-20, and a HM-2w. Time will tell!!

OD-500 would be the shit.
Not many stereo dirt pedals with LFOs and ability to series/parallel mix modes.

Elektron Analog Drive showed up. Certainly isn't perfect, but at its current price, it has to be one of the best values ever.
